ICCCR Incidentals!

Apart from the many hundreds of interesting cars there were a great number of stalls with tempting wares on display. The main purchase for Dave was a rear window louvre panel (brand new) for his CX project and I picked up a few small items including a new start code box and lid and genuine PRV V6 head gasket. I had recently found a job lot of gaskets that were all one side and luckily the latest acquisition has made a pair! I was also chuffed to find two original 'Accessoirie' key rings with some other dealership examples I had not come across before. My other prizes are a early poster, Dutch V6 12v brochure, sticker and greetings card, which are worthy additions to the collection! Regards, Matthew T.

Ive got a working spare keypad lid the same in the shed Mathew.. And I think the spares 24v shell car yeilds a working one aswell... Alas my 24v working car has a codeless ecu and also a non working keypad lid. Im tempted to hide the keypad behind the dash and put a cuddy cup holder in its place as thats far more usefull and the xm hasnt enough storage places for a phone or keys for example..

I was going to ask you Matthew what bits and bobs you picked up. Nice little finds there!

I was lucky enough to get a couple of new keypad lids when still available from Citroen Paul and all my cars are now sorted in this department! As I remove the codes hopefully lack of use will preserve!
Thanks Russ and I remember you also have an original key ring!
With regards, Matthew T.

i just wanted to mention a couple of further items related to XMs that we spotted at the event. It was interesting to see another very early V6 with a rear reflector strip and lights to match the silver/blue tint of my Poland car that confirmed as suspected a different fitting was used. I also meant to flag up that the V6 car transporter had added bonnet vents and the three pairs of wheels at the back were supported from reused rear subframes with hydraulic suspension, albeit not hydractive! Regards, Matthew T.

Here are some more pictures of the amazing XM transporter! As you will note the vehicle has different alloys on each side. Regards, Matthew T.

Wow! Not surprised it needs the extra bit of cooling.

imagine explaining that to the insurance company when they ask if it's been modified!

That has been gone about in the wrong way. The bonnet vents are in the high pressure zone so are more likely to be drawing air in than releasing hot air from the engine bay. The vents should have been in the first 1/3rd of the bonnet in the low pressure zone, so as to release hot air from the radiator and engine bay.
Using a v6 isn't a good idea due to poor thermal efficiency. At least 75% of the energy in the petrol is being wasted as heat.
I suspect tyre wear will be horrendous as the ackerman angle will be out due to the extended wheelbase and the triple rear axles are so far apart that tyre scrub will be significant.

You are dead right about the vent positions, Will. The further you go up the bonnet, the higher the pressure.
One mod that was common for non-turbo petrol engines (eg Rover/Buick V8) was to duct into the wiper-pivot area (scuttle tray), at the base of the windscreen, and feed this into the air intake. Heater (ram) intake is usually there on most vehicles.
If you must ventilate the under-bonnet area, a scoop or two (and lower down) is a much better way to go, a la top-side intercooler.
