Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV claims
A whole lot of intensive advertising of this vehicle in recent weeks.
Was intrigued by the claim of 140+mpg and 44g/km.
Reading a few road tests and reviews (some long term) throws up a somewhat different picture, though.
Basically, it's a medium sized SUV, equipped with a 2-litre petrol engine, two electric motors, and a very modest battery pack. Claimed battery-only range is just 35 miles; tests reveal less.
So, unless your driving is limited to very highly specified journeys, you'll actually be driving not a "plug-in electric", but a 2-litre petrol car.
And not 140mpg, which is just plain misleading, and ought IMO to be swatted.

Re: Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV claims
Ah, I've driven one when looking at my L200, its interesting and capable of UP TO 148mpg, I got well over double the economy (34mpg) of my l200 and the fuel is cheaper and much less particulate emissions which is all the rage this month, it also costs the same to buy as the diesely version with the same performance and cheaper tax, also because it has a smaller battery pack it stays fairy light weight and spacious, it has 4wd and will run all electric for a good 25 miles hard use so if you pop down the shops or take the kids to school regularly that is where the savings really kick in as you can run all electric but if you do run out of juice your not stranded like you are in a true EV.
Its not perfect but i like it, I like where they went with it and I think it works, you should try one.

Re: Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV claims
Is that the PHEV, Russ, or just the standard Outlander?

The PEHV has been a huge success in the UK.
The figures suggest that the tipping point between choosing the diesel and the PEHV is 25k miles.
Certainly if you do less than 30 miles per day then it is a no brainier especially if you use it as a company vehicle.

Re: Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV claims
Pretty much the best company car you can own, as it's very light on tax. That's why there are so many of them.
If you do a fair chunk of town driving, then they make absolute sense. If you do loads of motorway miles, they don't seem to make much sense at all.

Re: Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV claims
That's interesting comment. There's obviously a slot for sub-35 mile range electric vehicles, with all the tax and partial environmental advantages. Presumably, the tax and other benefits are also enjoyed by drivers who also run these on frequent long journeys... If so, quite an attraction in itself.
