XM Engines for Pugs. WHY?
Hi all.
Silly question probabley , but why are Citroen's being bought by Pug owners just for the engine? I would have thought their engines were as good as Citroens, well almost!.

Re: XM Engines for Pugs. WHY?
The 2.0i turbo engine in basically derived off the same XU unit used in many Pug/cit cars that's true,
but the Xantia Activa (very rare) and the TCT Xm (getting rare) are the cheapest means of buying in
some cases a very low mileage unit that would otherwise be prohibitively expensive to buy out of
a Peugeot for the cowboys that chop and change and chav up Pug 106's, 205's and 306's.

You would have though that this 205 and Activa and XM fad would have died a death now and that the kids would have moved on to some other things to butcher.

Re: XM Engines for Pugs. WHY?
Aha but now they consider the likes of 205s 'Proper old skool wee man like init'.
Those and 306s.... sorry, 'D-Turbos', continue to be a candidate for engine transplants. Luckily here I haven't seen too much evidence of XMs being broken for the engine, besides that unfortunate estate we came across in Maghaberry that time, but it still seems to go on quite a lot across the water, as evidenced by Fleabay etc.
The unfortunate thing is that the vast, vast majority of 406s and the like, tend to be diesel, so they get bypassed altogether, and the Barryboys then go looking for the next readily available car in the family with a PSA compatible turbo petrol engine - enter the XM and Activas etc.
You would hope that like you said, eventually they'll go away and start butchering HDIs or some other crap. (Come to think of it, is there a current PSA petrol equivilant of the 2.0TCT?)
But sadly at the moment they seem to be still at it.

Re: XM Engines for Pugs. WHY?
Are they not making small turbo petrol engines with BMW now, used in C4s etc and Minis?
Well it could be worse, they could be masacarring 2.1 TDs to put in their 205s!! I saw a 205 on a French forum with a 2.1 TD squeezed in under the bonnet.

Re: XM Engines for Pugs. WHY?
It intrigues me what proportion of these modded motors actually have legitimate insurance. When I look at the hoops my offspring have to jump through to get any kind of sensible insurance on bog standard cars I find it very hard to believe many of these others have any at all. I know of one case where a distinctly middle aged friend was looking to convert his camper back to petrol --- it's original specification, as confirmed by the chassis number ---- from the diesel that had been shoehorned in prior to him acquiring it and his insurers weren't happy about that, despite it being an original stock lump he was going to use. Mind, I suppose with nearly 70 HP and only a couple of tons to pull round they would be aware what a fearsome beast it would become !

You do see in the ads for these modificed cars, that they state that its still a 1.1 on the V5!
So they have no cover at all!

I'm not one to stir it up or interfere in other people's business, but I'd quite happily report pricks like that when I see those kinds of ads.
Not only are they not insured properly, but they get car enthusiasts in general a bad name.

Another one to the slaughter:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... Track=true
1200 made it into UK as RHD and I'd randomly guess a load have been scrapped for their engine
through ebay auctions over the past few years.

Re: XM Engines for Pugs. WHY?
What a plank, he complains about the fuel cost, then goes on to say he's driven it for 6 months with a leaky return pipe, which requires the LHM topping up every few days, that stuff must be 5x the price of petrol!
That said, at least he didn't start the auction with 'PUG ENGINE DONOR' like most of them do.
