Oil isn't cheap in the UK either...:(

I just paid 62 euros for 20 Litres of SERIOUS QUALITY 10W40 semi synthetic. Never tried it in the 2.1TD or 2.0 16V yet but will soon.
I spent ages tracing the whereabouts of the brand, seems it comes from my own home town in the Netherlands.....:) Strange really...... Emailed them and they are not some creepy company but very renowned in my country and I have their assurance this is really top quality good oil. Similar by the way of the 15W40 mineral oil that I have used for years up to now. Even before the XM's.

I'd like to add this story though. Years and years ago when I was <20 yrs of age, I worked for MOBIL oil for some month's. Nothing spectacular. Just filling drums of oil etc. all day long...
I learned there, that that after emptying the MOBIL quality oil mother drum into the 5 litres plastic drums.....the left over's were emptied in different bland plastic drums for (translated ) B&Q and those sort of Dutch brands. Similar oil you could buy there for a fraction of the price of the real oil. No surprise for me back then and even more now.

Jaap, do you have any CostCo shops in your region? They're American and sell everything in bulk. They do 20l drums of Chevron 10W-40 for around £45 ish and I use it in all my vehicles. Have for years. It's good quality American stuff and in very plain drums.

Interesting what you say about the dregs of Mobil oils. I believe that Halfords own-brand is or was Comma oils.

Ken, never heard of Home Bargains. Is it regional or a re-named chain? It's not the old FOCUS DIY under a new name is it?

No CostCo's in Ireland Jim. I don't take chances especially with turbo's but I used buy cheap oil and it never caused me any problems. All engines I serviced always outlived the car or my ownership.

HI Jim, Home Bargains are pretty widespread in the UK according to their online store locator. There are two near me in west Cumbria, the most recently opened one in Whitehaven took over the redundant Focus DIY store premises. I like it because they have a camera/attendant free car park, 3 hours limit! - a rarity these days. Their beer is cheap too!

Also Halfrauds have the cheap oil sometimes but you have to be quick for the £10 tubs and they are generally 4 litres as well which is enough for most citroens when you buy 2 and leaves some for topups or buy 3 to cover 2 services easily :)
