Banjaxed Xantia abandoned in Wales..

Does anybody here have the time/money/expertise and interest in it?

I stupidly ran it on a dodgy batch of vegetable oil which seems to have blocked the poor thing up a bit. It conked out near Dolgellau and I managed to get a garage to flush out the tank and lines best they could. Went to pick it up yesterday - got the petrol station to fill it up with fuel and she really struggled to keep going again, bad to keep the revs up else she'd cut out when idling. So I managed to get it back to the garage where we had no joy in turning her over. It's be started with easy start and they think that might have wrecked her a bit - it doesn't start without it now it seems. Apparently they become addicts to the stuff...

So, back in Sheffield, car is still in Dolgellau and I'm picking my brains as to what to do with it. Would be a shame to scrap it, does anybody think they'd get some use out of it?

Citroen Xantia 1.9td LX 1999
Bosch fuel pump
It's got about 11 months tax and MOT
Working towbar
About 130000 miles
Virginal white
Blower non operational - have a new control panel to swap over. Have bypassed it and it can be put on full blast; all or nothing.
Overall been used as a bit of work horse - previous owner kept diesel genny in the boot to power his burger van which he towed with it...

Would like to hear your thoughts... I know it's not an XM but please be nice ;)

Sounds like the fuel filter is blocked.

They replaced the filter at the garage :( but you'd be right, it was very gunky before...

What I'm looking for ideally is someone who wants to take it on - I don't have the funds or the time to make it out to Wales again to pick up a car that may or may not be working :(

If someone fancies it, can have a tinker with it and gets it going that would be amazing. If not they could sell it for parts etc and keep the profit. Batman maybe.

Maybe Paul could pick it up and get it going again for you??

TBH it sounds more like the intank filter is at fault and the fuel pump needs really flushing out to get bad stuff out of them but using the VP44 pump it should still be able to run on almost any fuel unless the needle lift sensor in the 4th injector has failed and is sending duff info to the ECU but even then it should still run albeit it not very well as the timing will be out a bit.

That all sounds like it makes sense.. Once it's going it will go! Just can't drop the revs else it cuts out. This Paul you speak of sounds like an interesting fella...

Hello Tim, my first port of call would be to see if I can get it going again; the car's a bit of a life line for me! But if for whatever reason it doesn't happen I shall be in touch :)
