Black box?

Does anyone know what this black box in the passenger front door, is for?
I was kind of hoping this is to do with the central locking but I now doubt that, because I don't remember seeing that on the SX

when I was changing the window cable.
What I would like, is changing the remote control unit in the SX from a donor with a working system. In the SX's case it is the key that's broken (and not fixable, I have read that thread about fixing keyfobs)

Hi Jaap,
This black box is for the automatic dipping mirror when you engage reverse.
The black box you need for the remote central locking sits under the glove box. It has Texton written on it. Check out my e-bay ads and you will see one I have listed.

Thanks again:) you never used that option since it both settings were similar! I only very recently found out about that mirror.
So the texton is unique to the key fob, you can't do keys with a lexia, can you?

The keys are paired to the texton box. No reprogramming unfortunately.

There is only one chip in the keyfob that is paired to the car, so someone with sufficient soldering skill should be able to transfer it to another XM fob (if you can find one)

The chip transfer would work if moved between a dead paired plip and a known working plip.
The chip is a surface mount type so not for the faint hearted.
This process will not allow you to add a second plip to an incomplete set as the data in each plip is unique.
Sadly orphan known working XM plips are rarer than rocking horse poo.

Changing the Texton box and using it's own key....had not the desired effect. Nothing happens. I was able to silence the alarm normally, and tried opening /closing the doors with the ignition on.

Do I need to change the receiver as well, is that easy?

Texton box is the receiver.
Do the box and receiver have the same code electric?

They must be John. The box in the donor car worked perfectly with it's own key.
Putting this texton box in the other car, I thought would have worked with this same key..But it doesn't.
