Fancy a laugh?

Fancy a laugh at my expense? My lad's Saxo's battery was starting to fail so I went and bought him a new one. Whipped the old one out and fitted the new one - nothing at all - no ignition - nothing! A few swear words later and I re-fitted the old one just to see what happened - nothing - sweet FA! What have I done - has something tripped or blown? Re-fitted the new battery - nothing. Put the jump leads on from a good battery and it fires up. Take off the jump leads and turn off the engine and try and re-start - nothing. Put the jump leads back on and it fires. Sit and look at it for 10 minutes muttering dark curses about cars in general! Stop and think now instead of running around like a headless chicken. Take off earth lead and notice a plastic protector INSIDE the terminal that sits on the battery post and mutter more swear words! Eureka as someone famous once said!
What I had done was NOT removed the plastic post protector when I had fitted the new battery - therefore no earth! When I took the new one off and fitted the old battery the protector was INSIDE the terminal which again preveted an earth! Fitting the jump leads of course gave the engine the electrickery it needed. Exit one embarrased dad!
