As you may have read, I'm having starting problems with my Citroen XM 2.5 TD, I believe it's the seals on the fuel pump so been trying to order the correct seals from Merlin Diesel.

I'd always believed it was a Bosch VP37, then recently found out that the XM 2.5's are fitted with the VP36 however when I tried to order the seals from Merlin Diesel they say it's a VE pump, I took the part numbers off the pump itself which are:

NR 0 460 404 993
VE R 520
TYPE 535
(015) 471 82247

The first one being the part number, Merlin got back to me with a scanned note from Bosch saying it's a VE4/10E2150R520

Can anyone shed any light on this?

The pump is a BOSCH type VP36.
it is derived from the Bosch pump type VE.
The VP36 pump incorporates:
- the diesel fuel electric actuator (replacing the load lever, linkage and springs).
- an injection advance control electrovalve.
That info is taken from the Citroen Workshop manual for the 2.5TD.

That suggests that VE seals and gaskets may well fit the body.
Will be interesting to know.

If you want to borrow a working pump then I will see if I can get at one of the spare engines to pull one off.

That makes sense. I am going to order a seal kit and try replacing the head plug seal which I have been told is prone to failure and lets air in, with the seals being cheap enough its worth a try.

Thanks for the offer of a pump, I do have a spare pump myself that I got from marc61 but my problem is not having any experience in replacing the pump, it seems beyond my abilities of DIY mechanics.
