C3 Pluriel engine swap

My daughters 2003 Pluriel 1.4 had a funny turn on Friday, broke down on motorway. Apparently lost some power, then high revs for a few seconds, then died. Turns over but won't start - Ive done the normal checks for spark, fuel and timing belt, all good. Just tried to tow start it and I can hear a mechanical valve gear clack, guess the timing belt must have jumped.

So Dad is now looking for an engine. Or to sell it cheap to someone who'd like one to repair.

If I do engine swap is it best to get the ECU too? Guess it will run on existing ECU if similar age and type? Don't mind the mechanical stuff, but don't like electronics, any advice appreciated :(

Best to seek out exactly the same engine, and plug all your existing wiring into the new motor. Swapping the ECU will invite a bunch of problems onboard.

If it's a Sensodrive you may want to seek advice on the "garage" setting for detaching the gearbox/accoutrements. I understand that failing to observe this, can damage parts of the clutch control.

Thanks, it's a manual gearbox so hopefully straightforward.
