Sad but True

Some time ago I bought a 2.1td engine just to get the exhaust elbow. Whilst stripping the auxiliaries off I noticed the cam belt had snapped. Today I started to investigate further and to my horror found not only an unworn but snapped cam belt, but also the remains of another belt wrapped round the bottom pulley, and what looked like a new water pump. One can only guess, but I think some poor sod had a broken cam belt, someone then fitted a new belt but omitted to remove the remains of the broken belt, causing the new belt to break soon after fitting. No wonder the car was scrapped.

A broken belt should only cause a couple of cam followers to break, so the whole engine may be good still.

Nothing broken, no sign of damage, have not checked for bent valves, but nothing obvious.

Hopefully the engine will be sound, although it does sound like someone has lost their rag with it at some point, wonder if the diesel pump has siezed? loking a Citrojims pictures of pumps that have sat with old derv in them is rather shocking
