Re: How many left?
Nice thought, although with XM shells rotting through like old Fiats, maybe a count of pre-98 lay-up cars worth resurrecting for the road would be negligible.
I've put together a quick table of survival, compared to some competitors.

Re: How many left?
That's an interesting chart
I get a feeling the Rover 800 will be a rare one before too long and the death-rates for some other is surprising..
Never knew the Ford Scorpio was such a numerous car.. I used to see very few even in their heyday. They looked bloody awful then and they still do... I always assumed it was a very rare car.
Can't recall the last time I saw any of those on the list in the wild.. I've only ever seen one XM in active use outside a rally recently...

Wonder how many are left in Ireland. At least we have 2 in daily use, can't see that change in the near future unless real drama's will happen. Touch wood, they're both still going perfectly or at least better than I ever expected.

Re: How many left?
Very interesting chart. I am quite surprised the XM sold more than the simpler 605. Mind you that car looked too much like the 405, so it makes sense. Also there seemed to be much fuss about the XM at launch and a Natwest company car fleet deal would have helped numbers. Plus new big Citroen since 1974 ect. Makes for alot of interest.
I also would have thought The Safrane would have been more popular than it was.
Jim, early Rover 800's just seem to be completely extinct. They were very popular once and suddenly they all seemed to be gone. Maybe the green dashes was enough to scrap them!
The Ford scorpios all seemed to live in London. Loads of them i seem to remember. Omegas very popular anywhere. Quite a few Alfas about back in the 90's around here, infact there was a family up the road with two green ones! But very little Lancia Themas, very rare.

Re: How many left?
Its interesting the number of 605 in use is reasonably steady - don't want to read too much into that, but think its important that the number of XM in use level out at some decent number in a few years time, would imagine that should be in excess of the numbers of 605. In that way there will probably be enough of a critical mass for us to keep driving XM's in the long term!
Think we're lucky there are still so many about, look how low the numbers of GS and CX there are - makes it difficult to use one as a daily driver. Long live the XM!

Re: How many left?
I have only ever knowingly spotted one 605 and I guess that is explained by the tiny number sold and I also agree with Russ about the 405 comparison! Regards, Matthew T.

Re: How many left?
They do like to blend in I find. A chap down the road used to have a gold one through out the 90's....and it really was too similar to the 405.

Re: How many left?
Indeed. A 405 that had eaten too many pies... The 405 looked brilliant but the slightly tubby 605 didn't quite pull it off although it looked far better than its contemporaries and likely it is a much nicer place to be in and drive. It was an XM under the skin after all but lacking the essential suspension bits...russ92xmsed wrote:and it really was too similar to the 405.
At least the XM never looked like an overgrown BX even though the family resemblance is there..
