European breakdown cover....

Does anyone here have any advice/experience of buying European breakdown cover? Taking the XM to France (and hopefully bringing it back too!)-it'll be over 15 years old by the time we go and will be there for 8 days. So far I've been quoted £70 odd with the RAC (I'm a member) but seems a little high to me...
Any suggestions?

Cheers,
Alan.

Hi Alan

The age and value is the problem,I extended my AA cover to go to France and was told they wouldn't recover it if it cost more than the value of the car - which it did, I asked if they would if I paid the difference and they said yes. Your RAC quote doesn't dound to bad if they guarantee to recover it free of charge, but I would check with them first. I usually get my insurance via Confused.com but any of the other companies would probably as good. Which? magazine did a review of travel insurance a little while back, if you dont subscribe find someone who does and you can look it up on line.

Cheers Peter-certainly food for thought....Trouble is my current insurance is up about the time I'm going so may not be feasible to extend with them...ho hum....
