If you look closely you can see the edge of the 6th cylinder just behind the front part of the casing so it's a V12.

Rolls Royce Merlin engine?

David.

It is indeed a Rolls Royce engine out of a spitfire. Griffon I believe, The chap who I bought the R reg XM off sold it to an individual who has donated it to a local collage to rebuild and have it mounted on a block in working condition. That's some project. He also knows a chap who has an unused spitfire Engine still in its original crate covered in wax. Bought it for £250,000 and it has to be rebuilt at eye watering £250,000.

I've never seen one close up, never mind stripped. Produces over 2000 bhp when running.

Can't wait to pick up the car Saturday not for the car  for Part 2 of his collection. SM and god knows what.

If you come along to the Cumbria Steam Gathering (Last weekend in July every year) you can usually see a couple of these (stationary!) engines being put through their paces. I'm afraid that I have forgotten the name of the group of enthusiasts who maintain and show them.
