Well to my XM anyway, really will be sad to see her go, but i know she's going to a good home,

So the search is on for the TD XM, and a 2.1 td i think is the model for me , and an auto.

I know a lot of you don't like the auto, but i do miss an auto,

Although the Xm is sold, i have managed to buy a BX 16 TGS Athena, Hummmm, my first Bx, i do wonder what horrors it will show up, but its just been MOT'd, and its taxed 'whooop' so i'm gunna run that till i find the right XM replacement.

So now there will be two cars at next yrs CXM , and a third if i can get the Mk2 BX rd out of the barn and back on the road ..

Any of you guys had this particular model ??? if so any advise on pipework or any other issues that my arise, , and i'm sure there will be some
I suppose i better join the BX forum now ;)

Rear trailing arm bearings don't last as well as XM ones and pipes can corrode, but on the whole Phase 2 BX are good cars and are much easier to work on than an XM.

The TG trim is fairly respectable with nice seat material.

From g reg on bx pipes are plastic coated. They rust at the door jams on the rear as well as on front screen posts and rear chassis legs.

Glad you have said auto Nigel, they are much more common - unfortunally. Get a good autobox though, and look after it with regular fluid changes and she should show good service. My mate Alan, has a S2 Td auto, a S2, with 196 on it, with orginal box, and she still changes nicely and smooth..

Be prepared though, the 2.1 with auto box is quite sllloooowwww... the manua box makes all the difference... don get me wrong, they are still beautifull cruisers, and rev lower then manuals in top, but no ball of fire.. you have to have the manual for that...

Ive got 3 DERV's here, ones my land lords, a 1991 H reg manual SED, and my own 1991 H reg 2.1 SED, Ive also got a J reg 2.1 D manual, but in the shed is an L reg 2.1 Auto D, base spec. The car has done a fair few miles though IIRC 213k, but had an auto box rebuild at about 180, and also an engine re build... We'd have to fish it out to assess the overall condition.

At the moment though, Ive no auto DERVs in...

As for BX's, Yes BX pipes are plastic coated, it was a changeover on G,so some are coated some arent... My Guess is shes a H or a J?? Anyway, despite plastic coats, they still do rust through :-(

Ill keep my ears open for you though for an XM,...if you like

Regards
Paul,

In all honesty Nigel, the 2.1 is that tourqey you rarely need to change gear, unless you do a bit of town driving

Early S1 cars up to L/M reg are the BEST to have Also for economy reasons! Later cars are less economical, ealry cars can manage a 45mpg !! Laters cars aren't as good.. possibly due to 'cats' and more weight.. and stupid EGR system

Good choice Nigel,

The 2.1 Auto is the way forward. Try and get one with a Bosch pump if you can! I have 3 of them here now...

That S2 2.1 auto Exclusive I had off you regularly returnd 55 mpg!! or is that not a later one? and TBH I did not find it that slow either, even straight from the TCT VSX
