Hi Peter,
I thought you could have but didn't want to jump to conclusions.
Nice to see the XM making the list.

Hi Steve
The 404 was the first diesel with any 'punch' but boy was it noisey

lovely comfortable seats though and a column change that was as precise as a RWD floor change. Then the 205 redefined diesels, but the first really refined car was the CX DTR, they don't mention that do they? The first british one I saw was the Standard Vanguard, had a Ferguson tractor engine, it sounded lovely (well, to me anyway) but only did about 2000 rpm so they fitted it with an overdrive - so you could overtake the odd horse drawn vehicle.

I was surprised they didn't include the BX but the standard had really been set by the 205, same goes for the 405, which incidentally I think is the best value for money car on the road today, particularly the td estate, I would rate that second to the XM.

Out of the three cars We currently own, two of them are on that list and the third should be as it's better than the 5 Series td.

A lot of cars are better than the 5 series td, notably a few hundred XMs

My brother had a 604 but it was the V6 petrol. Very comfy but boy did it rust.
What I don't understand was how BMW produced such great diesel engines from nowhere. Did they produce any diesels before before the 525s? Still I guess Ricardo can probably supply all the tech know how needed.
