One of the things I have always liked about French cars is the yellow tinted lights? How easy is it to have yellow lights on the XM (and not the aged and yellowed plastic lens cover fault)?
Can you get yellow tinted bulbs, for example?

I don't think that you can get yellow bulbs and I am not sure of the legality of them, you dont really want anything that's likely to reduce the light output even further do you?

not even on full beam? I wonder, are yellow bulbs available in France?
I am used to a Messerschmitt which has 70W output in total from the dynostart - that has to power everything and charge the battery.

Where yellow tinting does make sense is on fog/driving lights. Yellow light penetrates fog better than 'colder' light.

Back in the good old days Andyspares of Reading (latterly absorbed into GSF) used to sell yellow headlight bulbs which were basically a quartz bulb inside a separate yellow glass envelope. The other alternative was a special yellow varnish which you painted over the headlamp glass. I've used both on a Citroen GS estate on various camping trips to France and Italy many moons ago when the kids were young.

I bought some clip on amber plastic covers for the CX lamps, the standard bulbs are pushed through the cap affair and they clip onto the bulb frame.
They work nicely, and can be moved from car to car. The key is that they can be used with standard white bulbs.

I don't know that they use yellow lights in France now, I don't remember seeing them last time I was there.

They don't use them there any more now. Its just older cars and classic cars that people have kept putting the amber bulbs in or amber cap things that have them. They stoppedusing them in the early 90's.

Light output is diminished slightly , but still lights the road well

Did you use yellow bulbs or put cap things over the bulbs Vine? I have see the HID Xenon conversions kits available in yellow as well.
Odd to see a Xantia with Yellow bulbs, they were launched after they stopped using yellow bulbs in France. Some of the first XMs had yellow bulbs.
