Picking up another XM

Post by Citroenesque » Mon Mar 01, 2010 12:24 pm

So, life has a habit of turning up the unexpected...

The flight's booked and arrangements made. I'm picking up another XM. From near Geneva, 650 miles away from my front door… Back here on the 17th March, if all goes OK...

It's an XM 2.0CT manual (again!) saloon - a virtual mirror image of my current XM (except for colour), UK registered etc. It seems a good one, having had a good life, with it being maintained regardless of cost. Recent clutch, exhaust, spheres, tyres (T&T end of April so a bit short). A few calls to the Citroen-fan owner (and jolly decent chap by the sound of it) I feel fairly confident... best thing is it's 'free' - although obviously it is a bit of a way away!

Whichever is the best; I keep. The other goes. I have a feeling I will keep the red one as, on the evidence I have, it ticks a few boxes more than the green one, but we'll see. I certainly would NOT be in the habit of going to collect a car from someone gratis, (even though it involves travelling a lot) and selling it on regardless. Assuming I keep the red one and the green one fetches a reasonable amount, any 'profit' would go into covering the cost of collecting the car, doing the essential work like cam belt, aux belt etc, taxing and testing etc.

Before the XM decision is made both cars are going for an up-on-the-ramps inspection. And of course I will have driven both by then quite a few miles :D

(The BX GTi ain't going anywhere...) 8-)

Proof of the pudding and all that... let's see how the drive to Calais goes. It's long and a lot of sustained autoroute driving. If anything worrisome emerges during the drive I'm then faced with the prospect of avoiding Péage (just in case the car breaks down because European recovery doesn't extend to private stretches of motorway of course) which makes for a far more arduous trip.

So I see Xm ownership is leeching into your bones - thing is,
it's irreversible and there is no remedy! :D

Looks nice! Like the 24v'er style alloys with that red!

Nice one!

Don't worry, it'll behave, I drove my V6 back from Dusseldorf to Scotland and it only broke down after I'd got home -a few days after even!-  .

Best of luck

How the damm heck did you managed a T & T car for free in that condition!

Very good!

Andrew, theres a Red SED with those alloys already here, and when I get mine, also in this Red, Ill be dooing the same.. Though that does looka slightly lighter red, prehaps more shiny.

That is a smart car. The series 2 red is lighter than the Series 1.

I must say I'm looking forward to giving this car a good home! (In all probability I will be selling the Green XM I bought recently, so any interested parties, PM me - see: http://www.club-xm.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... =19&t=1239).

Well, I've decided, if it turns out to be as good as it seems from the pics/description, and in chatting with the owner, when I sell the other car I will give a sizable donation to Cancer Research UK in appreciation of this act of generosity.
