Can't decide. Sell, break or repair and keep?

Post by Featch » Wed Feb 24, 2010 4:57 pm

I absolutely love my XM but it's in need of lots of silly repairs and since I've been juggling a full time university degree course with full time work I haven't the inclination, the energy or the cash to revive it. Also my wife needs a van for her business and we have limited parking space.

So I have a basically sound 2.0 Turbo Exclusive auto that's showing a bit of wear and tear at 130,000 miles. It needs the back two exhaust boxes, a new ignition switch and various minor fiddly bits but nothing serious. I've not used for 9 months but I have moved it round the car park regularly and done Citroebics in it. I've changed the oil in the engine and gearbox (used the right stuff!!!) regularly and it runs and changes gear beautifully. I changed the cam belt, auxilliary belt and water pump 10,000 miles ago. I have full service history.

So should I sell as spares or repair, break it, or be all sentimental about it keep it going. I paid good money for it but I've had good use out of it so I wouldn't be looking for a fortune.

Here's a photo taken when I was still running it. I need to empty my wife's stock out and wash it before I can put it up for sale.

Hi Featch,

It would probably be a good idea to try and sell it to someone on the forum.

You haven't used for a a good while, are you likely to start using it again? If the exhaust and the igniton switch is the biggest problem it has it wouldn't be hard to sort out.

Its far too good to break, and the risk of selling it as spares or repairs is that it gets puggerised, to make a 205 crash even faster than normal.

Looks neat. Monte Carlo alloys. I like the BX, too!

BTW, is that a solar water heater on the roof? How do you use it and are these common in the UK? I have a very interesting set up also with a storage tank and booster pump.

Looks like evacuated tubes.
Not common, but there are some, I have it, it's great.

Or me ;) :D

Our MD wants to start trading in the Solar water heaters, we have one outside work for the Kitchen - its amazing! Doesn't require a lot of Sun for warm water either!

Whats your best price Will??

You'd be mad to break that car, it looks really good, backboxes etc aren't too bad in the grand scheme of things that can be wrong with an XM.
