Which is easier - front or back?

Post by nirgunapa » Mon Feb 15, 2010 10:13 pm

Read on .....

Early Thursday morning they struck again for the third time in six months.
Always coming downhill they generally target car windsceens in the village though this time they did smash someones porch glass as well.
Up till now our two cars have escaped their attentions but sadly my wifes Skoda had its front screen broken.

According to the chap from Autoglass considerable force was used to cause such deformation of the laminate.

The police's reaction has been woeful - handing out crime numbers and promising more patrols. As there is never any police presence in the village I am not optimistic. Apologies if any of you are policemen or women, but in view of the thousands of pounds of damage caused by these attacks so far this response is wholly inadequate.

So it seems that it may only be a matter of time before the buggers have a go at the XM.
So, in terms of availability and logistics if is to get bust which is easier to replace, the front windscreen or the rear? :(

As bad as each other! Both screens are bonded in VERY WELL..

My guess would be a Rear Screen, as you could swap a whole boot lid over, were as a front screen is just that...

Bastards,

They have nothing, so they can't let the rest of us have something without wrecking it.

That's exactly what the chap with the Subaru estate did - but not the same colour as the rest of the car :D

Hi Paul,
I disagree with you on this one as who want's to be dragging them self's around breakers yards etc. looking for a complete hatchback or tailgate hopefully finding one in the correct colour.correct type of spoiler due different fastener holes between S1/S2 and all the hassle of pulling and threading in all the electrics etc. and dependent at what time of the year too (It happened to my XM Christmas Dec.26th 2006)

The front windscreen is just a windscreen and that's it !
Also best to get fully comp. insurance as the small saving you may get is not even worth considering IMHO but it still cost me £60

So with $hite like this going off and more and more uninsured driver's, especially with the influx of persons from the other E.U. country's and beyond that don't even bother with tax/insuring there car's,
It's fully comp. with protected No-Claims protection every time for me :D

I had only arrived at my lady-friends approx. 10:30 PM and at 11:00 PM I heard massive bang/smashing noise and I looked out of the lounge window and saw a figure running away from our parked car's (in the parking bay's near her flat) I immediately rushed out, but by the time I got outside the Bastards (All three of them) had fled into the darkness !

Police all involved, crime number etc. but they never caught anyone for it, they'd ran up the low slopping front of the XM and kicked the windscreen in as you could see the foot print's on the bonnet and even on the glass, which can been on the first Photo just between the front wiper arm's (I always park it the opposite around now so the front is parked up to a near fence and then the back is nearest the pavement and so that much higher than the front obviously and less temptation/chance of it happening again) !

Photo's I took whilst waiting at Auto windscreens car-park on 29/12/2006 :-

Aprrox. a month later the Bastard's returned and trashed four or five car's that night including my Lady friends Immaculate Pug 309 GRD TD

She was going to come over to my place that particular Saturday night but decided to postpone it until Sunday afternoon,
she rang me up in a rage just after she was about to depart on the Sunday (Just goes to show its a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time) !

Note the muddy footprint's again :!:
She managed to drive to my place approx. 3:30 pm, by 4:15 pm just before it got dark, I had kicked the old screen out from the inside and fitted another I'd got spare albeit a clear one but better than a smashed bronze tinted one (That's the good point for the old method of holding windscreens in you can DIY, but obviously not so good for safety and strength) !

That is awful.

I agree with XMX about the front screen over the tailgate. Plus the front screen is laminated, so there is less mess to clean up. No wee bits of glass going everywhere.

Front or back? You mean which side would be most satisfying to knee-cap these oxygen theives from?

I'd start with both. Things like this really make my blood boil

Last night I drove my friend out to her (currently uninhabited) flat, to be greeted with a smashed window in the living room, second time in a month.

These primate scumbags just need their skulls ventilated, simple. Nothing else works, and its a staggering waste of money to keep them in prison (when they eventually go there, finally, after about 3000 offences), for all the good it does.

They should just be dealt with by pest controllers in the same way you would any other type of infestation.
