Off topic chat about anything you like. Doesn't have to be about XMs (though they will inevitibly come up!). You can even discuss non-Citroens :o in here!

Re: Headroom

I'm 6' 5 1/2" and have no headroom issues in my XM even with a quite upright position. It has electric seats and a sunroof. The driving position is the best of any car I've ever owned, better, if I remember correctly, than my CXs. I've done several 400 mile days and arrived feeling fresh with no aches and pains.

I like sunroofs so much that I won't entertain a car without one. I think they really suit the British climate. A bit of routine maintenance keeps then in good order.

I'm 6'2", never had a problem with headroom either in my XM with sunroof. Got about 2" clearance above my head.

I really like the way the sunroof makes the cabin so much more lighter and I never pull the shade across. When getting in cars without a sunroof they seem positivly dull inside.

The best sunroof i've ever had though was my first ever car- 2cv Dolly

Current XM- 1997 P 2.1TD VSX

The reason I asked this question is because I'm 6'4 and have a relatively long back, coupled with back problems and preferring to sit fairly upright I find the headroom of just about any car with a sunroof too low.
It's interesting that some of the taller drivers find the XM provides enough room, presumably they have Giraffe legs... :) I do note the XM has better front legroom than a C6, I thought the seat runners were a bit short in the one I drove....though nothing like as bad as in a Cadillac Seville I sat in. It was so bad the german sat in the passenger seat said " Get a proper car, buy a Mercedes..." ;)

It all depends on your legs/body length ratio, I'm 6'.0" and shrinking and I have never had a problem with head room, my son is 6.'4" and doesn't complain about the headroom, complains about practically every thing else though.

I've tried various cars today, S1 and S2 and estates and have some conclusions. The seats in Xm's are se too high, even on the lowest setting.
I can just fit into an estate but with hair brushing the roof lining, hatches are a dead loss, apart from ones with no sunroof, which are fine but I still feel too high compared to the steering wheel, dashboard and seatbelt.

This begs a question. Can the drivers seat be lowered below the normal lowest height? Does anyone have a car with seats out that can have a look to see if there is a way of lowering the seat further.

TIA.

I don't know, but if you find a way please let me know. I'm 6'6" and have to have the seat set right back, and very reclined, and my hair still brushes the head lining ( note to self.....get hair cut).
I think all car designers must be midgets :x

I drove a Renault 11 for a while many years ago, and I'm sure that anyone over 5'5" would be cramped in it. I hated it (and it's virtically challenged designer) so much that I vowed never to buy a Renault........and I never will :x

The problem is that the cars are designed with no sunroof and the UK marketeers insist on having them as a marketing gimmick.
Ever since they became an option I've ticked the NO box..! ;)

Get an XM without a sunroof and you would be OK...ish...an estate with no sunroof would be fine for you.

Crickey, aren't we all a bunch of giant misfits...

For a small improvement, if you have electric seats, remove the seat base and cut the plastic shroud off the motor. I did this on mine as it allows the seat to go a little bit lower.

What was that about "aren't we all a bunch of giant misfits"?

I suppose we are - I'm 6ft 7ins...!

I think we've found one common thread about the type of people that own XMs...

What is the term? "not-vertically challenged"

I've always looked upon myself as normal height - just that everyone else seems short?

Back on thread - I've never had much of a problem with headroom in any of my XMs and don't drive with the seat on the lowest setting either... Guess it's something to do with the body/leg ratio - as you said, Peter?
