Re: George's "Poole" 1993 2.1td SED manual
Good to hear it made it in once piece jorgy, it looks great. As Peter has said it won't have a fuel computer and you can't retro-fit as there is no way of metering the usage, due to the pump being mechanical.
Nice mpg, but not unrealistic at all. I reckon I saw 55mpg from my 2.1 auto and a cross country/motorway dash.
It's also not surprising that you say it has plenty of 'go' in midrange performance..it's whet all diesel drivers have been banging on about for years....
The old adage still applies..."people buy cars for power, then drive the torque."

Re: George's "Poole" 1993 2.1td SED manual
Hello all
Have now done 1,000 miles with it. All going well. Various service been done on it, will report in detail later.
Averages 43mpg (motorway between 70-80mph and 10% city).
Frozen this morning, after a first wash -overall cleaning progressing slowly, whenever I have free time - :
cheers

Hi George
Nice to hear its in use, fuel consumption sounds about right but they do reward careful driving, when on holiday and ambling about the country side 50+ is the norm, I usually get get 800 miles from a tankful. Its a nice car that, I half wish I had bought it myself.

Hi all, update time (well, can u call an update things that happenned...last year )
So, on December 08 2009, L823JVV has received a good engine service, and a full set of new spheres:
mileage: 80,520
Timing belt kit...£67
Water pump...£40
Alternator belt:....£8
LHM pump belt...£4
Engine oil 15W40 mineral...£18.5 *
oil filter...£6
Diesel filter....£7
LHM 500ml...£2
3 Glowplugs....**
2 front corner spheres...£55
2 rear corner spheres...£55
2 hydractive spheres..£55
1 accumulator sphere...£27
antifreeze mix
gearbox oil, empty and refill
Total parts: £346
Total labour: £286 [that's 7.15hrs in terms of the garage's hourly charge]
Total incl VAT: £728
* This is to flush it, I'm passing it to semi-synth in 1-2k.
**only 3 glowplugs replaced as 4rth is siezed. Shame, however is starts up no problem with 3.
Hydraulics:
At 80,600 I have added about 400ml Hydronet2000 and 500ml Hydraflush to -mostly- old LHM, but I will talk about the hydraulics in a future post.
Tyres:
At 80,770 I have put 4 new Michelin Energy Saver in 195/65 R15 91T.
Bought £244 (£61 each) at mytyres.com, very happy with them tyres.
Things to do immediately next:
-new air filter
-lubricate all height control linkages
-attach or replace 1 loose cv boot
-new thermostat (although current one works perfect, so maybe forget about this one)
-check spare tyre
-tracking
-put mudflaps I bought and wash thoroughy underneath -salt-!!
Car is now at 81,500 and all is fine, I'm thoroughly happy with it. Still discovering the car -I think I still have never floored the accelerator...taking it easy! Always careful to wait a minute idling before switching off. It didn't miss a beat in the cold weather, albeit it only caught the end of the tail....it started up normally after 18 days of resting outside when I came back from holiday -it has a VARTA battery which apparently was brand new before car was left to sit for the next...5 years!!
cheers

Was this the car that had damage to the bonnet and sill, if so does it still have that damage and what was required to get it through the MOT?
Did the doseur valve sort itself out, or was the rear sinking due to the accumulator being flat?

Re: George's "Poole" 1993 2.1td SED manual
Hi dieselman
Yep that's the car with a dent on bonnet and a pushed-in n/s sill. The bonnet thing is not *that* obvious, so for now I'll wait for the car to give me some service, and thinking of a full repair and respray for late 2010 the earliest. A friend who repairs+paints cars at home -painter by profession- has said he can pull the sill out no problem, so it looks positive. He's also positive he can strike the exact paint shade but I'm worried as I really like the factory job, it has deep hues in it and I just don't know how does one achieve that. Had a deal to source a bonnet from Robert here, but costs for shipping from N.I. are sadly horrendous, so will have to find a mainland bonnet...
The brake doseur sinking the rear is indeed gone now with the new accumulator. So I *should* assume brake valve is normal -brake operation is okay otherwise-. Was surprised however at the rate it draws fluid.
cheers

Re: George's "Poole" 1993 2.1td SED manual
Don't worry too much about the paint match as any repair will be blended ito the surrounding area so there is a very gradual fade in, which will be unnoticible.
I had an SD the same as yours and managed to mangle the front wing and nosecone. The repair was totally invisible. Dark metallics are easy to colour match, it's lighter shades that are difficult.
