Re: sageman's 'barn find' v6 sei s1
Hi sageman
Looked through a good number of ebay brake pad adverts.
Most are just plain wrong items or the seller has no understanding of the three types of front brake used on the XM.
You will need the second Bendix type used on all XM models from 1991 to 1997.
These pads need to match the 283mm (26mm thick) vented discs.
I suggest that you look at ebay item 191696673777 which correctly identifies pads to match the 283mm discs.
The pads need a central metal pip on the back as this works the parking brake auto adjust.
The pip can be seen in the photos.
There seem to be very few adverts that I was certain were for this type of pad.
As it is the most common XM one I guess stocks are drying up.
There are many more adverts for the other two XM front brake pad types.
Nearly everything about the early XM type (1989 to 1990) looks similar to your type but calipers, discs and pads are slightly smaller.
So much so that we have had reports of wrong pads fitted and dropping out in service.
Ebay item 292701068570 shows a good drawing of the early pads (note the two spikes on the outer edge of the steel backing plate).
Calipers type can be checked by looking at the handbrake lever arm.
Early type for 276mm (26mm vented disc) has a diecast cruciform handbrake lever arm.
Second type for 283mm (28mm vented disc) has a forged round rod handbrake lever arm.

Hi John,
In your search for pads, have a look at Mister Auto .uk pads for XM.
A very large range of makes, and pad types, with photos/drawings of each, and OE part number equivalents.
Stock readily available, and info/exchange not a problem, I find.
Would be interested to hear what you think of their range.

Hi sageman
Yes, the round bar on the handbrake lever confirms it is the second type of brake caliper.
From the look of it that caliper is siezed on its slide.
Full caliper overhaul, replacement brake pipe and new handbrake cable would be on my work list.
Hi Chris
I have no personal need to obtain any further XM brake spares.
The above search was to answer the query.
I think the pads I recommended are from the UK arm of Mr Auto.

did someone say my pressure regulator can be rebuilt and calibrated by someone
when i take the regulator off will the high pressure pipework just go back on fine or will braking the seal mean i need new connectors like modern day injection pipes on diesels

Re: sageman's 'barn find' v6 sei s1
The high pressure pipework at the regulator is 3.5mm LHM 'rubber' sleeve, and used extensively elsewhere on many hydropneumatic Citroens:
Citroen part numbers for these standard seals are really difficult to find (they're hidden under Piping Brackets):
96 085 783 Hydraulic pipe lining Tube 6,35mm
96 085 784 Hydraulic pipe lining Tube 4,5mm
96 085 785 Flexible lining Tube 3,5mm
It's ...785 you'll need. Special rubber, with an identifying green stripe. Priced each, or packs of 10, iirc.
. .
.
Others resell these too, eg citroenclassics.co.uk; not sure about AEP.

LHM pipes can be removed and refitted at will. You should fit new seals for surety against future leaking.

Re: sageman's 'barn find' v6 sei s1
To fix the glovebox hinge I removed the whole glovebox for better acsess
Under it is a black relay for the interior lights
I’m having trouble with them when the relay switches on nothing happens but when it switches off the lights come on for a split second before they go out is it this relay or not
Not sure if it’s related to a bad relay or not but when this relay switches on what I belive to be the hydrolic electrovlve thing also clicks before clicking again about 30 seconds after the relay switches off
Don’t matter if it’s a door or the interior light switch by the steering wheel
Another possibility (although small) I figure for the interior lights is the texalarm alarm I assume it’s wired into the lights which currently don’t do anything although it’s not plugged in there’s a pair of big grey connectors next to the fuse box unplugged although two more are plugged in
I unplugged the connectors from the back of the alarm and had no change on how the interior lights work
Where should this big grey one go would be nice if it did still work however unlikely that is
do these alarms oporate off the normal Citroen plip key or did they have another (something I’ve not got)
Also took it for a quick drive before I take it to the garage tomorrow for brakes and unfortuantly the RHD gives no readings for MPG etc was over a mile I drove it
All little things that hardly matter I know but there’s not a huge amount I can do really bearing in mind I’m on a fairly tight budget so trying not to waste money on things that don’t matter
Also me and some friends are driving to Amsterdam in 4 weeks time
If this is ready reliable and roadworthy we go in it
If not 5 of us are going in a fiesta
I know which I would prefur
Anyway Once brakes are done I can take the pressure regulator off and have that sorted
Once that is done I can take it to the MOT place and see if there’s anything I don’t know about if there’s not it’s a days work to fix it up
Tyres
Rear silencer
O/S sidelight next to main headlights cracked
O/S foglight/indicator cracked/broken

This sounds about right, and is related to the suspension system.
When a door is opened (even if the engine is not running, and the IGN is off), the suspension electrovalves with click open, putting the car in Soft mode. With the door left open, the EVs will stay switched on (open) for around 10 minutes, and then shut down (usually with a loud click), to prevent battery drain.
If you get into the car, and close the door, the interior light should go out (after several seconds), and after 30 secs the EVs will click off. The car has then reverted to parked (Firm) mode.
Switch on the IGN, or open a door, and the EVs will click open (Soft) again.
I know this doesn't help with your interior light problem, but it might explain the other clicks, and when they occur.
It might be worth checking the door switches for dirty or poor contacts, or a poor Ground connection. All four door switches are connected in parallel, and down to Gnd (body), so if any one makes the connection to Gnd, the interior light should come on.
