Now the challenge is over time to get on with the jobs and reward it with a few little cosmetic jobs.

First up an angry looking bubbling wheel arches. I've finally Summed up the courage to take a grinder to the paint work. So time to find out what was underneath. Surprise surprise! rust and apparently I left it a bit to long and it's made a bit of a hole.

Time to figure out how to do body repairs although I think I'll leave the repaint to the pros.

You need th take the wing off as that hole hase come through from inside due to the plastic liner rubbing the paint off.

Your acr is black...an easy colour to paint. Get an aerosol can from either a locak paint suppliers, or paint4u. You will need lacquer as well.

Having returned safely from the challenge this weekend saw a return to looking into some of the bodywork blemishes - I think it deserves some TLC.

First up is the rather angry looking blisters which have been bubbling up around the front wheel arch. With gritted teeth and dremel in hand I decided to finally attack the paintwork and see what was underneath. Surprise surprise rust and enough of it to have caused a bit of a hole.

After cleaning up the outside I figures I should get the liner out and see what was happening on the other side. More signs of surface rust but nothing too severe.

Whilst in there though more of what
lies beneath and a couple of spots looked like they're due treatment. Thankfully none of this appears to far gone or structural.

Hoping this has stopped it in its tracks. Will follow up with some hammerite undercoat on the inside and waxoyl before starting on body filling the hole on the outside. I'll just be priming and letting the garage handle the paint work.

After checking this one out guess I should really check the other side to.

Those front bumper outriggers always rust badly as they aren't galvanised and get lots of road dirt thrown up.

Keep waxoyl until after the hole is filled and bodyshop work done.

@dieselman I agree with your theory. The lining was right up against where metal was once. That's insanse just a little bit of rubbing of that over the years can do this.

I think I've been able to get to everything through the wheel lining without taking the wing off.

Liberal amounts of Kurust in the area. For the outrigger after Kurust will a spraying of some Waxoyl be sufficient to protect the area from rotting again, does it need painting with anything else first?

I would paint it with primer and top coat, then rustproofing wax.
