I didn't know those clips were still available. Will order some, as two of my doors have lost them, the button held on the rod (just) with a bit of small rubber tubing. Just occasionally, one of the buttons literally takes off, as the car us unlocked!

That is all good news Paul and it had occurred to me earlier to suggest checking your front strut rubber return pipes. I have needed to replace several of the latter, including on the car I am taking to France! All the best of luck with fixing your air con and it will be open windows and sunroof for us! With regards, Matthew T.

Which type are the lock button clips Mk 1 or Mk 2?
There is a increase in grip height for Mk 2 ones.
Hopefully the Mk 2 ones as these will work in both types of XM lock button.
Original Citroen part number for the Mk 1 ones was 95 654 096 available in packs of ten.
These clips are 20mm in height.
The Mk 2 ones are 22mm in height.
The are a few odd ones in the spares box that are 26mm in height so it seems there were quite a few variations for different Citroen vehicles.

On the subject of difficult to find part numbers for Citroen XM odds and ends there is "Agrafe CDE Cond YSO/PB6".
These also came in packs of ten, part number 95 654 096 and that strange name on the packet.
These are the illusive plastic hinge pins for the XM 13th window, the internal screen.
Knowing the part number might just turn a few up NOS.

Ordered a pack of the Ebay clips this morning. Will find out whether they fit when they arrive. At least I have two survivors to compare them with. Not a very clever bit of kit.
Did look on serv.cit before ordering, but couldn't find the item.

Only a part number for Series 1, p/n 95 654 096 NFP.

Presumably, on series 2, you have to buy them as part of the button.

They're taller than the originals, but they do fit this XM Series 1 and work as the originals albeit sticking up a little high.

Apart from all the work you are doing, I would get breakdown insurance ,possibly with the AA, but definitely with their German equivalent called the ADAC (who are excellent). Mind you, I got the insurance with them when buying an old Citroen in Germany in 2015. The car broke down and they got me to the UK with the minimum of fuss, since the faulty part was not immediately available. Then , last year, they rescued me in Germany once more, when the A/C pump? started smoking in my XM. The ADAC came v quickly when called and correctly diagnosed the problem. I followed their advice and got to the UK with no further problems. What was their advice, I hear you say. Well, that I should not switch on the A/C button and I would be ok. Cost of the insurance is about £80 for a year and they rescue you no matter what car you drive.

Good luck with the trip.

I am hoping it will not happen this year, but on the last Challenge in 2015 we broke down and received assistance via the AA that all worked well. It is necessary to provide notice that you are going abroad and there is a small additional charge. With regards. Matthew T.
