Hello everyone,

just recently, a a faulty starting/ignition module (a small flat box which resides on the side of the battery) left me stranded and waiting until 2 in the morning to get towed. That experience, combined with years of continuous fixes and poor reliability made me almost give up on my car. Luckily, the cars seems a lot more reliable with the starting module replaced and I have also been able to get some work done on it by a guy who has owned a number of CXs/XMs. Suddenly, the car is bringing me joy again :)

Most importantly, I had four CX spheres (600ml?) fitted instead of the original XM ones. The car now really floats over any bumps and is suddenly such a great ride, though I did manage to scratch the belly of the car on a particularly nasty speed bump. Would not go back to XM spheres.

The rest is just cosmetic fixes. I got a code pad door with both hinges still on

Got the original Clarion radio installed; I can finally use the buttons on my steering wheel to control it :o

We've also been able to find a working glove compartment hydraulic thingy

I've also had all the little bulbs in the dashboard replaced. Looks great, except I keep forgetting to turn on my head lights now that the dashboard is always lit up!

However, there's still work to be done. The wiring seems to be in need of a fix.

Once the wiring is sorted, I'll also look into getting a new front mask and perhaps some panels; mine are hail damaged. I've been told only some S1 24vs have been painted in Vega green, so it seems like I'll either have to get lucky, or I'll have to have the new panels painted. We'll see :)

600cc spheres on the corners with large damaper orifaces must give a very soft and somewat rolly ride. I would have thought 500cc with as small a damper as you can get would have been a better choice. Even XM 450cc spheres with their larger damper make a noticeable difference to ride quality.

It was good to hear from you Jan and well done for persevering with the car. I am also lucky to own two 1991 S1 V6 24v, one being lhd with diravi, which must be the ultimate XM. Please do keep us posted on progress and incidentally Emerald was actually a popular colour on early S2 cars. Regards, Matthew T.
