Jordan's 1992 V6 12v
Hi everyone,
Finally found an XM here in New Zealand to buy, 400km away from me. Hopped on a bus, bought it and drove the 400km back home.
Anyway about the car, it's a 1992 V6 12v auto, 110000km (68000 miles). Two owners from new, the second owner only had it for 2 years and never really drove it, first owner took very good care of it, always dealer serviced.
There are quite few issues to sort out on it, but nothing too major. Here goes...
-Speedo cable snapped at speedo head, both plastic clip and inner cable have broken
-Interior fan / heater controls not working, also broken recirculation flap bits on panel.
-fog lights not working
-passenger seat not moving forward (shaft from motor has snapped in two)
-suspension totally solid, believe it is just spheres.
-glovebox done the usual failed strut and broken latch (grey plastic too not normal black)
-interior lights not working
-trip computer not reading distance or fuel usage
I think that is all, sounds like a lot to sort out but should have it done rather quickly (hopefully )
I have already got the dash out to remove the speedo cable and fix the heater panel , hoping to find a NOS one somewhere, get it remade or possibly second hand. Also removing the dash revealed wiring for interior lights messed around with and what I believe is the fog light relay had also been modified (extended from the fusebox and second relay added? I will have to post some photos of it)
Will hopefully be updating this regularly with everything I do to this car, I never did with my other XM but would like to start. Will post some more photos when I next get a chance.
Jordan.

Looks like it is a nice car! Was it NZ new, or a Japanese import?
Have you still got your TCT?
I don't remember seeing which part of NZ you are in?

Re: Jordan's 1992 V6 12v
One thing that is bugging me is three loose connectors in the engine bay. They where tucked down between the engine and gearbox. A black and a blue plug, both similar (female, 2 connector, 2 wires (green and grey) and a black plug with a single male pin (seems to be a single wire in thick plastic tubing / protector)
Anyone have any idea what there are for? Can see anything they should be connected to? I think they come out of the engine bay loom.

It was New Zealand new, purchased by a doctor in 1992 and owned by him until he sadly passed in 2012. He took excellent care of it, always had it dealer serviced and has lots of handwritten notes in the owners manual of work done (everything from sphere pressures, new batteries, new tyres...)xantia_v6 wrote:Looks like it is a nice car! I do still have my TCT but I am planning on selling it, I really wish I could keep it but it is in quite poor mechanical and exterior cosmetic condition - it just isn't worth the time and money for me on a 215000km car.
I am in Wellington. Are you still over here in New Zealand?

No, I am in France at present, but will probably be returning to NZ later this year. I would quite like to find a nice XM or Xantia in NZ, but will have to see what comes along.

Good luck with that, XM are quite rare here and Xantias are a little more common but most are in pretty poor condition. They are just a cheap car to most so they don't take very good care of them, people seem to take a bit more car with XMs though, probably more owned by enthusiasts.
I have only seen about 8 XMs for sale in New Zealand since I became interested in Citroens 3 years ago now, and I have bought two of them!

Re: Jordan's 1992 V6 12v
I was in NZ for a few months last year and saw 2 XMs advertised, but was not shopping for a car at the time. I had a nice RHD Xantia V6 that I could have imported into NZ as a returning resident, but the costs and logistics of storage got too big (due to spending 18 months in France).JD01JD wrote:Good luck with that, XM are quite rare here and Xantias are a little more common but most are in pretty poor condition. That looks like a great car Jordan. Nice colour, those wheels! ....No sunroof too. Bonus!
Hope it's straight forward fixing it up. Must be a rare old beast in New Zealand.

Stranded connectors In gearbox area - distance sensor not working -
Maybe.
If you have the relevant wiring diagram, the colour combination of the connectors and wires, plus their number, should give a clue.
Those two connectors on the left don't mate up together, do they? Perhaps just the way the photo looks.

Re: Jordan's 1992 V6 12v
This age car would have the electronic speed sensor in line with the seedo cable just before it dives though the bulkhead i would think, this sensor is for the suspension only but i would guess its used for cruise and trip info where fitted, im sure the plug for that is blue, or white?
Same colour wires as used for the bendix abs sensors too and they look like they were twisted pairs which would suggest a sensor of some sort was once attached to the end.
Lovely car by the way, good luck sorting out your niggles.
