Very nice car indeed, good luck with it! Love that Lotus more than the Laro....:)

The keypad seemed to have been an option on the 2.0sei at that time Paul and this car certainly never had one fitted. I owned another slightly later model and that was the same. Regards, Matthew T.

Theres certainly a couple here..
PM'd you about this :)

Drove the car to work today, cutting out/stalling seemed worse, had to go through town with lots of light etc, also experienced the eratic idle when i stopped at a shop on the way, of course by the time i got to work (2.5 miles) it was running fine.

Strangely it was fine most of the way home only stalling at a junction after two miles, maybe because it was colder in the morning ?.

Also drivers window packed up once home, put the window down to reverse into the drive and it wouldn't go back up, got the Lotus out the garage and put the XM in there so i'll check it out later.

Before leaving work earlier a mate at work stopped in his Magane to have a look at the XM, he couln't get his window down, i recon the Megane put a curse on the XM

That is certainly odd about the erratic idle and running as despite not being super smooth it was never a major problem for me. The window switches can get sticky and generally come back to life after a few clicks! I attach a photo of the car during my ownership just to show what she is able to carry! Regards, Matthew T.

You're lucky there because you drive a MK 1 who appear to have better window mechanisms. Cables do break, I've recently seen a Renault with 3 of it's 4 windows malfunctioning. Renault is quite known for failing window mechanisms, as are citroens or at least certain models like CX's and XM's and Xantia's.

Any idea about the state of your fuel filter?

Another thing to check is the fuel tank. I've had similar problems once that I could not trace. Until I found there was a lot of water in the fuel tank. If you take off the seal underneath the rear seat and have a look inside the tank, it is usually very easy to detect if, there is water.

Good luck.

I suspect this is a temperature sensor issue, or possibly an air leak into the manifold.

Fuel fiter has been changed recently, also pretty sure Graeme changed theTemp sensor too (will check) and idle control valve, he did have the inlet manifold off when the head gasket was done so that's been all sealed.

Also car passed an emissions test fine.

Will check for water in the tank over the weekend.

Another thing i did notice during a 40 mile drive last Sunday was that there is a very slight chugging when climbing a hill in fourth gear (engine at 2K)

Will try a few things with the car (going to try another ECU as the one in the car has been modified), last resort there is a specialist fairly local i'll give the car to.

Confident i'll get it sorted eventually :)

Hiya, just to give info: the temperature sensor on the top of the throttle body (yellow plug) wasn't replaced but it was removed, cleaned and the resistance measured. It was within the spec I found for temperature of 20degrees but the air flow/ temp sensor (think it's the grey connector) was harder to test as I had no spec for it. It had continuity at least so I cleaned the plug.

Only info I didn't get to check was the fuel pressure. I wanted to take it to Graham Harper's garage and have it checked on cold start up to see if it gives 3 bar and holds it. It's probaby nothing to do with it but it was a factor I wanted to eliminate.

Manifold went on with new gasket and micro film of sealant the air bleeds bipes that go in to the throttle body from crank breather etc were all removed and the nozzles got new o rings. I can't think where it would suck in air. I recall, it did improve for a few days after I removed the idle control motor, cleaned it and added a little light oil to it. I then bought the brand new motor and it started the cold stalling again. I have a box of bits for you (can bring at the weekend) tht has the old idle control motor included. Can't think why the brand new one would cause it though?
