This is something I need to look at at some point, not refurbing, but replacing. I have a decent FDV, to replace the very sluggish one on the car at the moment. One question, are there any seals in the pipe unions? Must look.

There should be a seal on every pipe union apart from the brake caliper pipes.

I had a feeling there was, but just hadn't got round to looking properly. Thanks for that Will.

Russ, There are 4 pipes with 12mm nuts and 1 with a 9mm nut. I will measure the actual pipe diameters tomorrow. I have used all my larger seals so cannot say what size they are.

The height corrector kit won't be here in time to fit tomorrow so the FDV and auto box will be on the agenda for tomorrow night.

Everything is easy when you know how!

Thanks Rob, that makes it easier! I will have a look for seals when I'm ready to change it.

Russ, I have sent you a photo of the seals and approximate pipe external diameters to your email.

The leaks were due to operator error! Unions tightened and no leaks :/

Also flushed another 3 litres of Dextron II through the auto box. There was actually a pinkish tinge to the brown sludge today!!

Thanks very much Rob, I did get them. Very helpful indeed. I have also found a supplier of the seals, so will get them ordered when I am ready to change the FDV.
It's surprising how much you have to nip those unions up to stop the drips. I had weeping on the two unions to the brakes on the subframe. All sorted now.

Good to hear the brown sludge is being diluted. New Dex 2 always reminds me of melted strawberry lollipops,.... just doesn't taste like it!

The pipe unions should be fully tightened as the pipe-socket interference is what makes the main seal. The rubber seals are there for weep control.

it's no surprise they need to be tight with 1000psi behind them.
