Their must be a short rob on the front wiring harness for the pad wear.. for info REARS do not have wear sensors..

The tempery thing you could do it remove the warning bulb from the speedo cluster this will eliminate the message..

I am sure the problem is on the OS because that is where the wire was cut so neatly.

I will pull the wheel off again and have a root round. I will be a good boy and leave the dash bulb in!!!

Dash warning for worn brakes are owner info only and nothing to do with mot though low pads are an mot check. .

Its not like taking an abs lamp out...

I think it is an old wives tale that the wires get cut in the wheel arch.
The type of rubber sheathing is prone to radial splitting due to flexing of the bent loop.
Once the rubber is split the wire then flexes until that snaps as well.
The rubber leak off pipes have the same splitting failure problem.

I see some quality time with the mulitmeter in my future..........

In the meantime I am getting good at ignoring the warning lights.

The NEC beckons on Saturday.

Good show at the NEC lots of Citroens if you like over priced 2CVs and Meharis!

What looked like a potential bargain SM at £7.5K. Needed a lot of work but values are shooting up for these. Chatted yo a guy on one of the 'generic; car club stands with a DS chassis and skeleton body. Apparently he used to write the XM column in the 1990's but seems to have dropped out of the club. Didn't catch his name but seemed to know his XMs!

Car went a treat. Covered over 500 miles in three days this week. Average consumption 28.6mpg :)

Took the wife out for the first time on Thursday and again today. Verdict ' Quite comfortable, as your classics go not too bad'. I deem this to be praise of the highest order!!!!

The 'one shot' window switch has started to play up.

I assume these are a hard working item and problematic. I have given it a good blast with the contact cleaner and this helped to get the window back up but next use saw it stuck down. I had to get the switch out of the door and give it a good jiggle to encourage the glass to rise. Both 'up' parts of the switch seem similarly reluctant.

Any thoughts or options on replacement?

There are small stainless steel contacts inside the switch which fracture' these give at best intermittent operation, I've not got any spare, if you find them hang on to them, if for nothing else than spare contacts.

Thanks Dean. I will just have to stop using the window!

Busy day today. Degreased the engine bay and front sub-frame area. Pressure washed the front suspension while I had the wheels off. Discovered some peeling underseal in the N/S inner arch as associated surface rust so treated and resealed that.

Rear wheels off to find pads and discs all good. Less good, both rear sill ends shot and will need cutting off and remaking. Also the underseal around the N/S rear sub-frame mount was split and generally not very confidence inspiring. Looks like the subframe will have to come off at some point to allow a proper inspection. Cleaned up the subfame a gave it a good spray with rust preventative wax.

Took the spare wheel carrier off and cleaned it up, treated the rust and gave it a lick of black paint. The spare wheel looks like the original Michelin 175 and seems almost unworn! Gave it a clean and coated it with silicone spray to preserve it a bit. Found a couple of holes in the back exhaust box. This will have to await its replacement at the end of the Month care of Paul.

Gave the old gal a snow foam and wash followed by a quick vacuum. Dropped the Clarion radio back in after cleaning the pots but to no avail. Still a horrible crackly mess out of mainly the Left hand channel. I await it's replacement from Paul, again!

All good until i discovered that the N/S door mirror that I had folded back in the garage was not clipped in properly. It was the end of the day and my brain was not up to working out how to clip the rear pivot back in. Any advice much appreciated.

All being well off for a run down to Stourhead gardens tomorrow with the good lady, the XM is definitely an acceptable classic!
