Can I ask what the 190s like? Is the 2.5 engine nice and what's the fuel consumption like?

Thanks.

Steve.
Sure!

I have grown to like the 190, but it's very different to (and not as good as) the XM. That said, it feels like it is hewn from granite and is generally much nicer to work on than the XM! The ride isn't at all bad for conventional suspension too, but obviously not in the same league as the XM.

The engine is sweet, and I love the sound it makes. That said, it's no racing car and is probably ultimately slower than my XM was, however it is more economical and somehow more restful. My use of the car isn't great for economy; I'm a social worker and I spend most of the time either driving through a busy urban environment or in the outside lane of the M62. I got 43mpg on the last tank. (The 190 is manual). Strangely the fuel consumption is not affected greatly by speed; even if I drove it for economy I'd be surprised to get more than 46ish. I believe that you can get 50+ from the 190D 2.0, but they are supposed to be dog-slow...

190's are great cars mechanically, but are now getting a bit long in the tooth and can suffer with under-body rust. The 12v 2.5D engine is very reliable but rather slow.

They only have 10 valves though; 5 cylinders with two valves each!

Another MOT was obtained, on Saturday 3rd August (at the 2nd attempt).

No real dramas. It failed on :

O/S head-light aim (I replaced the HID gubbins, with a regular H1)

N/S position lamp (repaced bulb and holder)

N/S indicator flasher (cleaned up contacts, but really needs new holders, both sides)

Battery insecure (re-fitted battery clamp)

Windscreen Washers ineffective (poked jets with a needle, and repositioned their aim)

Boot-lid unable to be secured. I managed to break the plastic claw, so drilled a hole and have secured the two parts with a self-tapping screw.

.........and that was it. Re-test was done inside a minute.

Was a little concerned about the emissions, after rebuilding the Injection-pump last October; as I didn't get it calibrated. But it passed the emissions...........eventually. The reading got better, after each rev-up.

So; I'm good until August 15th 2014..............or until the next thing to break / require attention.

Next up - replace the ATF and engine-coolant
