This is our our newly bought 2.0 Turbo Exclusive with 150k clock. It has a huge service history and lived in France for several years though bought new in the UK. In need of a new exhaust and a few electrical gremlins sorting out - sticky central locking on the passenger door and tailgate, an external temp reading that constantly changes from -5 to 20 degrees and no drivers side dipped beam. However, we are pleased with her.

Nice car- is this the XM that was a project car on the Honest John website?
Always love that colour on an XM!

Thanks very much. If forgot to add earlier, if anyone can give me any helpful hints on how to fix the exterior temp guage, I'd be really grateful.

Fit a new sensor in the wing mirror.
There is a black plastic cover on the underside of the mirror hinge.
This has the sensor protruding through a small hole.
Cover unclips and sensor will hang down on its two black wires.
Cut the wires to remove the old sensor.
The replacement sensor will need its wires cut to length to suit.
Then the wires need soldering together and insulating.
No polarity to worry about rejoining the wires.
Reassembly is usually a tight fit and clips can break on the plastic cover.
Replacement covers no longer available.
Small cable tie can then fix all back in place out of sight.

Thanks John. That's one of the few places I'd not looked for it! I need to get myself a manual I think!

Just had a quick look at the passenger door mirror. Looks like a new sensor has been fitted by twisting the wires together and then not insulating - oh and the plastic cover on the underside is missing too! A job for the weekend to solder the wires.

The sensor is one of those parts that is still used on modern Citroens, so readily available. I think you can pick them up for very little, if yours still refuses to work.
