There should be a semi-automatic heating system that can't cool using A/C but still tries to mix incoming and heated air to a set temperature and that uses a sensor but not the outside temp sensor, the internal one (located in the ceiling lamp housing).

Remove the radio completely first. It's not a standard factory note but somebody might have noted the code on the radio itself anywhere, on a sticker or maybe just with a marker pen on any exposed surface.

Rather more urgent on the To Do list seems to be 'replace offside strut top.' No surprises there. The offside one has some surface rust, but it's the rubber that's more concerning - it has perished quite badly. Anyone got any tips for how best to source one? I can't have the vehicle off the road while I send it for a refurb.

Perhaps you should consider getting a pair, fit both, and refurb both from the car rather than just one- if one is dodgy perhaps the other is not far behind...

I'm certainly not going to bin whatever comes off. I think we're well into the stage where any sane XMer has a pair of refurbed strut tops either on the car, or waiting to go on!

They're also available at Chevronics for £150 each. Beyond my budget on my budget motor vehicle! Sounds like it's cheaper to send them off for a refurb, but that means leaving the car off the road for a while.

Right. Today's missions are to see if I can get the central locking working on the fob (will try syncing it) and to see if I can get the code for the radio. I need to get more info from the radio itself.

Day 3 hasn't started well. No central locking or interior lighting. From what I've found so far, these are controlled by the same black box.

Day 3 has improved. Disconnected the battery, reconnected, everything works. Then used it to haul 47kg gas bottles around. Ideal.
