Arrrggghhhhh... not going good now!

Spent today stripping both dash boards out of the two XM and swapping the incar harness..

This was triggered when I went to plug the harness down the centre console in at the front to put in the rear electric windows and rear heated seats when the plugs on the Base D dash harness and the SED centre console loom are BOTH females!

So spent today swapping the harness only to find that under the fuse box theres spare plugs and sockets and also at the drivers side. This has resorted in my having NO centre display warning lights, at all and the dot matrix from the SED only displays faulty rear lamps... no doors open, mind you saying that the door harness is not plugged in yet. But Im getting no hydralic warning lights, no battery light either.

So I need to compare the two harness's and see whats what... NOT as simple as I expected.

Im not scared of the electrics once I got a diagram, I was really expecting complete plug n play swap over...

Yeah, you would think it would be that simple. At the factory you would expect for lower spec cars, they just don't plug in the higher trim bits....leaving the plugs for retro fit.
Clearly not!

Have you got a Haynes book of lies. Their diagrams are not too bad.

haha Russ. "Typical Diagrams" ... No good for me.. need to be FULL blown diagrams. I think Ive just downloaded the full Schematics from a web site. When it finish's Ill have a look and got legs crossed..

Hmmm... Yes but what it doesnt tell you russ is this:

The WHOLE car loom across the car under the dash comes out AS ONE PIECE after plugs at both ends are all removed!! and its this on both harness's I need to sort out!

Explained in another way, the front door harness Plugs at each front door pillar undo, pull through into the car, then theres three plugs under the foam to the aide of both front seats, these de tatch from the harness to the rear, then a bunch of earth plugs to the side of the steering colum, three plugs in the middle ahead of the heater unit, and then the same again on passenger side, plus an extra plug that carries wires up and over the passenger head to the rear of the car, and then a number of plugs that connect to the engine harness... then the WHOLE lot lifts out including fuse box as one.

The harness for the blower and heater and air con are left in as a secondry harness...

Which work beautifully - best cold air blower I've had and lovely toasty warm on the hot settings!
