Wow, they really were crusty. Makes me feel a bit better about mine. Nice result though. I look forward to seeing this car .... Maybe at CXM if it happens?... ;) :D

I could really do with a welders lift like that for when I do my rear subframe! How handy is that!

This front corner and behind outrigger is NOW A COMMON area for ROT! It also doesnt help the fact that Mud and damp Sits between the wing and that corner, so they rot inside outwards and outwards inwards..

Its now the FIRST place Ill look if I ever buy another XM. The K reg one Charles had needed both sides here dooing, also a mates M reg S2 2.1 TD needed the drivers side dooing, though his was caused by a bent inwards Flat jacking point.. So its not just confined to the odd car here and there.

Did you get a picture Close Up of the welding work he did Mathew? I noticed the one you have still has the wing in the way. Just want to see exactly HOW CRAP my welding is!!

I recently discovered that the first XMs left the factory on 1st May 1989 (RP 4557) so the Poland car's emergence on 16th May (RP 4572) gives further credence to possible appearance at the massive launch event involving 1,000 Meteor Grey examples on 23rd May. I accept that the original intention was to produce 450 cars a day so they would not have been short of choice! With regards, Matthew T.

The parts manual I have states that S1 started with RP4557/1st May and the 450 cars per day comes from the Martinez/Sauzay book Russ. With regards, Matthew T.

Congrats on this find, it's great to know an old and sounds like a very interesting example like this is now in good hands. Enjoying all the detective work!

Many thanks Paul and I hope to have the car on the road later this year and maybe for the CCC National! Regards, Matthew T.
