Now ticked over 201,000 miles.

Last tank of veg with 3 litres of dino in it got me just to 751 miles which is a bit more than the computers fibbing workout of 41.2mpg vs my calcs of 42.62mpg which isn't a million miles apart and has involved a lot of sitting in traffic recently due to the weather and stupid roadworks around the airport at the minute

Anyway, i have pondered doing the JoG to LE trip and seeing if I could set a record for the highest MPG achieved in a road vehicle on a single tank of fuel which i think the XM could manage its only 800miles or so and im not far off that with the current usage

I average 720 - 750 miles from a tank in my Xantia Hdi. But I have done 981 on a trip down to Cornwall.

See I'm thinking veggie fuelled which rules out a lot of cars.

There are loads of time records in different vehicles but I can't see how it can be done without getting caught by the many speed traps along the way, never mind roadworks along the major routes.

Ideally the bulk of the driving would be done overnight to avoid the most traffic.

At a steady gentle drive it could be done with a tank but a speed record would require refuelling on the move which I've come up with an easy way to do on the move

I thought it was over 1000 miles in an Audi 100.

Not sure I could do that somehow!

Wonder what a hdi110 in an xm could do with having a 25% ish bigger fuel tank, and better economy than the std fit units...

Pah! Thats nothing! Wait for Peugeots NEW 308 with a New 1.6 HDi 8v engine.

Provisionally, their 56 mph fuel consumption figures are 97.4mph... Thats a 120bhp, and JUST 82 co2g which equates to FREEE road tax under the latest goverment laws for tax!! Addmitely there is a FAP to but that wouldnt affect me, I know how to treat them and live in the ideal place for them to survive

Now that DOES appeal to me!!

(any car with co2 under 100 gram is free road tax! WHO Needs a Hybryd now eh!)

True but to keep weight down I bet the tank is 40-50litres. Not good if you want to go a long distance but good to help get the mpg down on tests and the current crop of 16v 1.6 hdi's doesn't enstill me with confidence

Current 16v 1.6 HDis though are quite a Mis Understood engine (im leanring about them slowly!) are averageing 60mpg in the C4's, and about 45mpg in the Phase 2 C5's in 110bhp form.

A friends Wife has a C4 1.6 Hdi and is very pleased with it.
