Any brand of belt will be fine, but best to go for the heavy duty option, if possible, for longer life.

Thanks but after much searching in Germany, France, the Netherlands I now bought the Contitech in Ireland. Fingers crossed it's not an old belt from 1999...

Well I ordered this timing belt set at Mr.Auto.ie and it still has NOT arrived:( !!

I can't get them on the phone for the last week or so, before that I was told my order got lost somewhere... Pretty pissed off about that sort of customer service so be warned.
On top of that, Turby is doing even more miles than anticipated since another XM we own, decided to get naughty this morning That's another story but Turby did show another 'ABS out of use message'. It was when I was stopped with engine running and foot on the brake. I don't understand it since it disappeared when I started driving again and never showed itself again for the next 180 miles or so. Strange....

Not so strange. Mine have done this too. Why?... who knows.

Presume same on 2.1 . . . . There's an ABS relay [#844] whose function is to bring on the ABS warning light, located (on the 2.5) near the ABS equipment behind the LH headlight and battery.

I recently had ABS light not always extinguishing on start-up (or IGN on), and 'ABS out of use' appearing randomly. Tracked down to very dirty contacts on the relay, both external and internal, and internal rust. Cleaned up and immediately OK: warning light operating normally and no more message. Like all the other relays in this area, very vulnerable.

If any of your ABS sensors have been replaced, check where the wires from them are joined up to the original ones. They are often covered in oil, the wires hjave rusted and contact is very iffy.

Anybody who can advice on how to block the fly wheel (for upcoming timing belt change) by using the fly wheel? I know there is a whole in the fly wheel but do I have to take out the starter or is it possible to gain access without that.
I do have a special blocking tool that I used on Xantia's and even on the XM 2.0 16v but not yet established if it is usable on the Diesel engine.

Xu family engines all have the same block casting so it will pin up the same way with the hole just above and behind the starter motor in the block itself for the ofset timing pin, if your talking about getting the bottom pulley off I would try to crack the bolt with the car in gear and handbrake on, the starter trick never fails either and there is a lot less grunting involved.

You can lock the fly wheel with a special toothed tool. You have to remove as small cover on the auto box casing to show the flywheel.

OK Robert so similar to other engines indeed. I have that tool - somewhere- Wish me luck!
