Bugger, 13 month test not an option here then but even so I still don't think full test matters on an XM any more. 20 to the gallon and 40 mile commute doesn't sound great with fuel at the price it is. I remember a good 14-15 years ago running round in an '86 BMW E23 735iSE that did much the same probably quite a bit less with my driving style at the time and barely did I bat an eyelid at the petrol station. Different story today though!

Two gallons a day for the prv! Makes my v8 look cheap to run
Don't blame you though as the 2.1 can do pretty decent mpg if your happy to be patient

Patient for what????? It moves well enough for me thank you very much!! Cant do more then 75 anyway and the manual goes well enough.. so less of that on my thread

First drive in her tonight home from MOT station... urrrmm 30 odd miles!

We do have however a front wheel bearing noise... so my Q is, how do I tell which .. when I turn right it gets louder, turn left no more noise... I can never remember if its more weight makes it quiter less weight makes it noiser, which would tell me Drivers Side bearing.

The other issue, is the car has still got that horrid veggie oil crap in it. Startup from cold gives me lots of blue smoke - unburnt or badly burnt fuel, and a Miss Fire when revving.. this all clears when warm and amazingly ZERO smoke from the exhaust...

Jack them up and spin them or try the rocking method usually shows them to confirm which side

As for the veg just run the tank out and then stick 5litrea of diesel in at a time and maybe a light splash of petrol in as well to help clear it out.

Ive put 30 quid of derv in it from an orange light.. see how she goes over the weeekend..

Throw in a good dose of Dieselclean (1:200 for a drastic clean) as well.

Your left bearing is U/s.

Ill do a hub swap from the ole sed 2.1 thats next on the list to leave me as a bare shell..
