V6 engine and box out time again!

Post by MTXM » Sun Jan 06, 2013 6:32 pm

After a change of mind recently about passing on my 1990 V6sei auto I decided to bite the bullet and have the engine and gearbox out for a thorough overhaul. The plan is to change the engine head and manifold gaskets and timing chains (if necessary) and also to eventually get the box professionally rebuilt. As I found with my other 12v, there is a great opportunity to clean and tidy up the engine bay and no doubt there will be many other useful jobs! I attach a couple of photos of my first afternoon session and I will keep you all posted as works progress!! With regards, Matthew T.

No Jim, its an external auto box fluid cooler box fitted randomly to certain models..

I had one on my V6 SEi auto XM, the 1993 K reg one, however, when I swaped the engine and box complete the cooler was not needed for the replacment box. I think it was deleted from S2 PRV setups...

I also need to do ALL this again on my 1993 V6 SEi, when I start a light resto on her and fit a 65k engine and auto box to her...

I know this all rather well Mathew, having the SEi auto box and engine out, ALSO my V6 24v Manual has been out, and when I had it the TCT auto Onyx had a 70k engine fitted, but original auto box as it was still good.

Mathew, go easy with those top hoses, they are DEFO NFP now! I have a fair few though, most for auto. The manual ones are even more scarse.. The difference? No extra T off for the pipe that goes to the auto box oil cooler...

I KNOW Ive got one of those small cooler rads from my V6 SEi... ;)

An interesting and worthwhile project, Matthew. Though I'm not sure it doesn't show you have some masochistic tendencies.

A good mechanic NEVER has bits left over Jaap

I was originally trained in my mechanical ways by stripping and rebuilding teleprinters as an apprentice. left-overs were a punishable offence!
