I don't understand why the bottom edge needs prising outwards?

The vulnerable lugs on the lower section are really prone to breaking more
than anything along the top edge which doesn't have any breakable parts.
Seems a Youtube video clip is required? Seems I've been doing this my own
'crazy' way for years and it's taken plenty of practice to nail it having found
out the hard way how not to do it! There shouldn't be a crack either...

Well, I ignored the rain and heeded the advice and went and tackled the job this morning, and maybe I'm not as useless as I thought!

I was still very apprehensive about the corner pieces snapping but they did come away as indicated; I started at the top flexing hem outwards allowing the fragile lugs at the bottom to come free without any dramas. I did find one lug missing as in the photo above. In order to remove the central piece, I had to take the wiper arms off which was ok but a bit of a fiddle to refit with panel back in place - I'm glad I'm tall!

The disappointment is that I wasn't able to solve the crappy wiper performance; it looks like it will need another wiper motor replacement. Anyway I have sprayed everthing liberally with WD40 and will give it a run in a minute just to see if there is any improvement.

The best news is that I have someone coming to look at the Saab this afternoon, so fingers crossed for a sale.

Thanks again for the help and advice received, it does help.

Rob

It sounds like either your motor is unhappy or the actual pivot points
of the rod linkages are dry and seizing up.

I'd go for pivots seizing up. I have had to strip and grease these before.

Talk about anti-climax. Two gentlemen of non-indigenous extraction arrived 10 minutes ago and asked where the Vauxhall was they had arranged to come and view. I tried to explain that a Saab is a Vauxhall that's been through quality control but they didn't seem to get it.

Still a five car household then, and the Multipla is in for service and MOT this afternoon. Some cash wouild be useful right now.

I took mine all off today too. I find you push gently down with one hand, Andrew and gently prise the bottom edge out, only a little and they pop off. Not quite a crack .... works for me. I too have lost one clip. Makes no difference however.

Glad you did it Rob. I don't need to take the wipers off to get the large trim panel off on mine. It is a fiddle, but you can get it out by having the bonnet open a little so you can still get to the lugs.

 whatever works and it seems to here for Rob!

I was going to say the wiper arms don't need removal and the main scuttle
can be tweaked out with the bonnet opened!

Watch the locating pins don't knock the rubber grommets out of the mounting
face putting it together again.

I always use Andrews method of corner piece removal, lift the top section off first then push the whole lot down and it will come off without breaking the lugs.

On both my later purchased cars the wiper spindles were so seized I had to resort to switching the motor on and using a crowbar to move the linkage.

I wonder if the motor isn't the correct one, but the noise does make it sound like seized linkages.
