XM 97. 2.0 Madis

Post by Madis » Wed Sep 05, 2012 2:45 pm

Hello and greetings from Estonia.
There is no active XM enthusiasts forums in Estonia, so I joined here.

Last week I flew to Germany and bought myself a new car, Citroen XM, it costed 1300 EUR but the total with the trip to home is around 2000 EUR. What I got for this money? Well, the car is in pretty good condition(drive home were 1600km, no problems emerged while I drove home), driver door and front bumper need some color repair and I'm trying to find original XM alloy wheels from somewhere in Estonia. Only mechanical problem the car has is suspension, at first I thought that the rear suspension spheres are trough(they are), also the hydraulic pump needs changing/repairing, but I don't know if anyone in Estonia repairs them.

About the car:
Year: 1997
First registration: 1998
Motor: 2.0L 97kw, automatic transmission
Mileage: ~178 000km

Some pictures too:

That looks very nice Madis 8-)

What is the problem with the pump? They are not hard to repair if it is leaking. The common place is around the outlet union caused the the O ring circled in red in this picture..

The O ring is available from any Citroen dealer...

The suspension is fine now, swapped both of the back spheres, the pressure pump would be the next thing to repair I guess, but it works fine at the moment, just needs few seconds more to build up pressure, to lift the car. Breaks, hydraulics and steering are working fine while driving.

And also, anyone knows what are the size of the speakers(in front and back)? Ones what I got with the car are pretty rubbish aftermarket ones.

An anti-sink car will be slow to pump up, hence the anti-sink system. If it is sinking overnight, the anti-sink sphere is flat. As well as the corner spheres, don't forget to change the centre one if it is low on pressure, which is common on a hydractive car.
Try the bounce test both with the engine running, then after switching it off and closing the door, wait one minute then try again.
If there isn't much difference the centre sphere is flat.

Hi Madis.

An anti sink car only uses 2 pumping elements for the suspension and brakes, sinkers use all 7 pumping elements, so rise much more quickly.

An anti sink will take about one minute to rise.

The more I hear about anti-sink, the more pointless it seems. Why wouldn't one want their Citroen to sink!?
