You will be pleased when it's done russ, a great sense of achievement when it all comes together but the devil is in the detail and there will be many details which will drive you mad! Still worth it in the end to get what you want.

Really hope so Dean. You are spot on, many small things driving me mad at the moment but hopefully it will come together and work.
Just hope I like it when it's done!

I have driven manual XM's before and enjoyed them. So this will hopefully transform the car for the better.

All has been quite quiet since November. The XM has been sulking under a cover in the garage all winter. But hopefully progress will be made again soon. A leaking brake caliper has been added to the to do list now.

However, at the moment, having it tucked away in the garage on axel stands might be a good thing for now. I got a fine through the post from the DVLA on Saturday saying I have been using my SORNed car in London on the 16th march. .... seems the little dirt bag who cloned my plates are up to know good again. Of course I am disputing it with proof.
We will see how that one pans out.

So if anyone sees a tatty grey mk1 XM or any other car with K272MOR plates. Report it!!

I still don't understand this, out of all the vehicles you could clone they have not picked the most inconspicuous, it does seem to be working however, unfortunately🙁
Hopefully you will get it sorted and back on the road soon so you can enjoy it for the summer.

:) Thanks Dean. It's quite incredible.

A Ford Fiesta i would understand, a rare car like the XM, arguably stupid, not to mention a SORNed one.
I'm expecting more fines to come through the post.

A few tweaks here and there, some fabrication of parts and then it's reassembly. Then some welding needs to be sorted out. A part that was holding it all up has been sourced thanks to John.

It is good to see you active on the Forum again Russ and the garage must be more tempting with the warmer weather and extra hour! How very annoying about the further cloning issue and as you state an XM does seem a curious car to chose! With regards, Matthew T.

Russ's car is SORN and has no MOT, but is still showing as insured, hence not getting pulled over, and appearing as if it is being used, the logic being that no-one would pay for insurance on a car they couldn't use for a significant time.

You may have been better to suspend the insurance, saving a years premium, at the loss of an additional years NCD.

Having no insurance should get the offender flagged up on ANPR checks.

Thanks Matthew and Chris. I'm itching to get back to it now.

That is a good point Will. However it has also proved invaluable as it has my milage recorded on the certificate, prooving I haven't used the car since I reinsured it since August.
But clearly if I had let it run out, then they might have got caught by now. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Has anyone ever had real trouble with getting the sump off a 2.1, or any xm?
I don't mean access ect, I mean actually unsticking it from the block. I just cannot get it to budge. And there is no visible gasket seal to wedge a thin blade to prise it apart. Any ideas would be very appricated.
This is holding up my reassembly!
