Really. I had no idea... I assumed C5 and 607 were sort of developed together. It's not that unusual to carry floor pans over, it's one of the most expensive part of developing a new car.
I did have a thought at wether the C5 mk1 got any XM left overs, albeit heavily altered. They share a remarkably similar wheel base.

No.. The c5 is all new to cit.. The 607 carried the 605 floor see in which the xm and 605 shared .. Essentially the 607 is an updated 605.. Nothing else. The c5 x7 is the shared floor with 407 and 508 models.. Xm seat runners wont directly fit c5s but will 607s see..

Apparently Citroen only fitted the manifolds as stainless from factory but Peugeot in the 605 fitted a full stainless system to their 24v 605s ....
Yes I had also heard that Paul and wondered why the XM did not receive similar treatment!! The 605 does have a completely different looking exhaust system beyond the catalysters. With regards, Matthew T.

Well, progress... but 5 steps back...

Managed to swap the drive shaft out for another with a better CV boot...

Anyway, sadly, sunken my hopes a bit due to a bloody hole to appear in the outrigger on the passengerside behind the jacking plate...

The other issue I also discovered with removing the drive shaft is there is virtually NO gear oil in me box!

Firstly, where do you fill these box's and what oil is used?

I suspect a shaft input seal has failed or is weeping...

The fill plug is on the front of the box. Ep 75/80, 1.8 litres iirc.

One step forwards, two steps back Paul - that how it always goes.

Oh no... Not more holes! Thought you'd have seen the back of those. Hopefully it's a straight forward fix.

Come on Paul, keep ya chin up! This should be a walk in the park for you, God knows you've had plenty of practice with other XM's. The poor old girl thinks you've fallen out with her, leaving her sat for so long and now she's simply in need of a little re-bonding.

If gearbox is similar to Diesel engines then drain hole is easy to find, I used a 2 funnel method due to access, but it worked well, take your time topping it up, they like to drink it slowly. The oil is as Will said, 75w80 and 1.85 litres. Eurocarparts seem to be the cheapest.
