Good on you Paul...its come along way 8-)

You'll do fine on the MOT ;)

Funny you mentioned the furred up connectors on the side repeaters...happened to me on the passenger side the other day.... :) Apparently there is this wonderful stuff called contact cleaner which you spray on and it kills off everything to just leave a clean contact....go to remember to get me some of that at work :P

Well, what a disapointing drive to the garage!

Missing, restricting power.. 4 cyls, 5 cyls 4 cyls... all the way!!

No power.. So, IF by miracle she does pass MOT ill take her back to the farm and swap Dizzy, rotor arm, wiring harness . It misses at idle too but more under load..

ANNOYING!!

Leaking HT power, possibly just damp from all the standing.

Nope. leads are swapped from another set I have..

Im thinking two things, knackered dizzy/rotor OR its an injector, from a rotting engine harness.

She ran fine on over run though....

My guess would certainly be something ignition related.

Dizzy cap and rotor arm would be my next port of call seeing as you've already changed the leads :)

OK She was trying the garage today.. I got to the garage at 1pm only to hear "... ah, we not done it, wouldn't start... " ..

So I went over to her, and yes the starter was completely silent, not even a solinoid Click ..

So I disconnected the Circular plug that joins the engine harness on top of the engine, and with a piece of wire applied a 12v to the Solinoid wire and she spun over. Reconnected the plug and tried and off she went.. missing away.

So, bottom line after inspection was,

(the first one was not on the advisory sheet)
1. No point dooing emmissions due to miss fire..
2. Slight split on nearside outer CV boot..

However, she came out with a Fail. RTB Parking Brake.. I watched the brake test and saw that the nearside brake only gave a 51kgfm compared to 124kfm OR SO force..

So, I took her home, and had a play about, and have been incredibly lucky to have sorted both the brake issue and the miss fire.

The Brake Issue

Having Xmexclusive's experiance in mind I got the near side wheel off.. Cable was attached both ends at caliper and equaliser, however the outer sheeth on the cable had deteriated beyond usefull help. I had the same thing, applying the brake compressed the outers but this took the tightness out of the cable.

So, replacement to hand, and actually easyilly fitted, I was now able to tighten the wheel bolts with the front in the air, wheel off the ground and parking brake on!! Now thats tighter.!!

Good N bad cables.

The offending gap hidden out sight as the cable routes along the passenger firewall way..

The Miss Fire Issue

So beginning to think it was either a sticky valve, or a lead, or HT curcuit breaking down, I firstly swapped the Dizzy and rotor for one I knew didnt have a problem, miss fire was still there.

So while the engine was running I went round and disconnected the injector plugs one by one thinking it might be an injector.

And one made no difference to the engine note..

This one.. So, instead I thought Ill check the injector operation, and had a listen... Yup it was operating. So, it had to be something else. Knowing the rotor and dizzy worked, it had to be plug. I removed it and started the engine with it on the inlet and yup NO SPARK!

So, I grabbed another one plugged it in and got a spark! So I stuffed it in, and hey presto! 6 cylinders. I popped down the road and it felt all 200 horses had returned!

The offending item! A Dead sparkie! Grrrrr... Bloody things..

So, thursday, I shall take her back for retest on the brakes.. Cutting it fine, but we are just there!!

That is good news on all fronts Paul and especially with tracking down the cause of the misfire! I had to replace a handbrake cable on the Poland car which had completely seized inside so I can understand what you were up against. It looks like there will now be at least two S1 24v at the XM25 with yours and my lhd! Best of luck with the retest and see you soon. With regards, Matthew T. PS. I will be bringing the gas tank and other bits.

It will be good to have one of each at the event Paul, which is partly why I got her back on the road this week! Unfortunately I am only bringing one car and my wife anyway now mainly sticks to her Yaris TSport!!! With regards, Matthew T.
