I tried to talk my dad into letting me borrow the P38 and trailer to bring it down with the cover on it so that it didn't get dirty
It is a pain when it rains but then it will be a lovely drive down ;)

I set off a 7.30am this morning headed for Wetherby in the XM. In 2012 the XM only did 44 miles so this was going to be a shock to the system... I'm pleased to report that she dealt with it in her stride.

I decided to treat her to a tank of that new V-Power Nitro Unleaded this morning. After a £121 fill up which was 86.7 litres we were on the M8 headed south and everything was running amazingly.

We had a great run down with the cruise control set at a steady 70 all the way. Upon arriving at Wetherby I was amazed to note that the petrol pin was only on the mark under full which was quite surprising.

I went out in it twice at Wetherby on the lanes round there which won't have made much difference to the economy but after coming home today I'm really impressed with the figures.

Distance covered today: 460 miles exactly
Range left in tank: 247 miles
Average Economy: 30.7mpg
Average Speed: 59mph

After arriving home there's still 1/3 a tank left in the car :)

Picture below to prove:

My XM also reached a milestone on the way home today too :)

With economy like that who needs a Diesel! **runs and hides**

That Massey Ferguson noise will never beat the noise of the V6 and the silky smoooooooooothness of the power delivery :)

**ducks**

I know.. but ... oh.. you know.. i cant be bothered with it anymore.. i have my own home and will never be able to afford to run a petrol v or 4 pot full time.... only as a now and again car..

Any anyway.. where does massey come into it? Have you heard the sound of the latest ones????

:)

No fighting: I love the diesel and think, I would love, a V8 as well. If I do about 4400 miles per year that is! :) ***now I'm ducking***

the 86,7 litres, I think I remember something about an extra big fuel tank )option) which I think I must have as well. I'll look it up soon.

I do hope though, the V6 will travel more in 2014 as well. You only live once!! :)

Depends on the weather! It doesn't see rain or salt so only comes out on sunny days!

It had half an hour on the drive this evening after I got home before being tucked up indoors again :)

Well there is alot of running and hiding going on here.

What a great story David. Enjoyed reading that. I know it was from 2010, but good anyway. Can now understand why it does 44 miles a year! Lovely car....it's definitely my favourite mk2 combination of the silver and those alloys.

Must say though, 30mpg is great for a V6. Impressed.

But I agree with Paul and Jaap. I do like my 2.1 8-) ...especially after fixing the fuel / air issue. The performance is soooo much better...not V6 league of course.
