Yes Will, the sensor is just that, it feeds a resistance signal to the Bitron box which decides when to turn the fans on, i think the bitron is tuned to turn the fans on depending on sensor position, the 2.0 engine has the sensor on the stat housing, the V6 has the sensor on the back gearbox end of the front cylinder head so wonder if there is a compensation for what the temperature may be in that location.

Tried to start the car tonight with no success :(
I fitted the Ignition module that Matthew had sent and tried to start it and she came to life straight away 8-) im sure it was the ignition module to blame so im going to clean it up, put some heat sink paste on it and go for a drive.

Hopefully, this trip will end better than the last one!

The output transistors in ignition modules do have a habit of going South.

High under-bonnet temperatures probably don't help, and these modules are often sited without much thought to temperature. They have a long history of annoying failure!

completed 16 miles before having to give up tonight due to suspected heavy pulsing engine hesitation under medium to high load which became worse the more i drove, came home and checked some stuff.

Here is my new transmission fluid that has done less than 50 miles

can you see this powerful LED torch through 1" of my new transmission fluid?

No metalic bits though which is a small concelation

So, where the hell was that lot? it looks like its eaten an entire birds nest full of mud :(

Sooo, i cleaned

And added new fluid, im a litre short of a refill though so will have to pick some more up tomorrow................and have another drive.

I dont think it was slipping as the rev guage wasnt dipping about at all it was rock steady but the power was going on and off, i suspect the clogged filter and disgusting fluid could be the issue, has it damaged the box? is the box the cause? we shall see.

After further thought, another possibility is very dirty oil due to muck that remained in the clutch packs which i could not flush mucked the new oil up but i could have a bad fuel filter as well which is showing up on the V6 engine, the reluctance to stay kicked down sometimes could just be bad fluid as the box seems to work fine other than that and although the oil is disgusting it does smell new and not burnt, i shall pick up a new fuel filter tomorrow and some oil and then take it out again and see what happens.

On the plus side my cooling fans work great now

I can't see 16 miles damaging the gearbox. If it was really starved of oil pressure it would stop functioning.

An extra change is obviously much needed. Maybe fitting an external filter in the cooler piping to keep cleaning it out properly might be a good idea.
