iirc an owner (dollywobbler?) on another forum got near to 1000 miles from a tank on a 2.1td XM...
1000 miles would equate to 57 mpg, so could be achieved, with care.

It makes sense for what was "The most comfortable car in the World" to have a long range between stops.

not much to report really, it's going great!

recently repainted the rear bumper chrome strip, it's far from perfect but looks a lot more presentable!

oh, and did i mention this is now my only car?

well as of tomorrow it will be, unfortunately i've made the decision to scrap my C5, due to the automatic transmission just about failing, and a few more issues.....i'm going to buy another C5 in the coming week or so but for now, i only have the XM

We do like a game of fuel light roulette.

Red...or Black...?

Well to add to this. .one two recent trips to CCC rallies in our 2.1td auto exec S2 i also got around 53mpg one trip was fully loaded with me, wife and child plus luggage. I found it disbelief too...

I have found though that using the car with the load or kickdown cable removed and using the gearbox set speed changes helps.. it not holding gears unnecessary and revving away for no reason.. it changes up and the torque is so good just pulls on. The nature of the high revving box is completely pointless on the 2.1 ..

Time to sort something that's been slightly bugging me

i have slight doubts as to how well my hydractive system works

it does work, per say, evident when replacing spheres.....centre sphere was released with a clunk upon closing doors etc

anyway, the ride can be slightly firm at times, sport mode light barely illuminates upon actioning the switch (it does with ignition though)

upon opening the door, i get a clunk and a very slight lean to one side so i believe in a way it does work

i've been told i should hear a buzzing noise from the ECU when a door is open, this does not happen, only a clunk

so i suspect it needs a diode repair? reccomended diodes for this? i'll likely wire them in externally

otherwise the car is doing well

indicator stalk is suffering in the heat, become quite sticky and had an incident of smoke from the steering column and relay chattering

i have a replacement en route from the ever helpful paul, as well as a few other little bits

for now, my solution is to be a little more forceful with cancelling a signal than i would be normally, this ensures it will remain in the centre position when not in use

i also need to investigate some electrical issues under the bonnet too, mainly the power supply to the fuel solenoid

The buzzing doesn't.come from the ecu.. it comes from the electro valves under the car..

even more news

so the ring terminal supplying the fuel solenoid has the cable snapped off on the ring connector

bonus news is, there's power there!

so i can do a permanent fix and remove my bodge from the glow plug relay (it's served me well for the last 3k)

pin 3 from the plug relay can be used as a temp supply to the fuel solenoid
