I like how the display makes you do a brake test before you set off.
Only warning I've ever seen bar the 'Bonnet Open' and 'Front Right Door is Open' whilst working on it is 'ABS out of Use'
Is there a full list of all messages knocking around anywhere?

Hi Jim
Page 32 of your owners manual, provided you have the right one for the car year.
Owners manual version number is on the bottom centre of the outside of the back cover.
I think yours should be XM-GB-5003 (MY 1993) or XM-GB-5004 (MY 1994).

Hi chaps,
No I haven't taken the instruments out yet. Was planning to do it tomorrow, but this spare wheel carrier has taken a bit more time to sort out than i had hoped. So we will see. I'm still going to do however.
All I did was spray some WD40 in the Relay connectors and plug and it was working this morning. Probably a fluke!
The only warning message I get often is the ABS out of use...no surprises there! That came on today. It's been off for the last couple of days. There now seems to be no pattern as to why it does.
Doesn't it depend on the model spec as to how many messages you get.

citroen + ABS = problems. But lots of other cars and models will suffer problems too at this age

There are 18 messages covering lights out, parking brake, hydractive, ABS, Engine heat, Doors open, bonnet open, Boot open, etc.
I wouldn't go looking for error messages to appear...

The Mk1 XM brake test before you start off is optional.
Switching the ignition on lights up the tail light bulb failure warning lamps on car silhouette (el cheapo XM's) and Stop lamp test/Apply brakes to test messages (the rest if the display works). First brake application completes this test even if the car is already moving.
There are actually 29 messages on a Mk1 display.
15 are single text messages and 7 are double text messages.
Removing fuses 11 & 15 gives you French text.
Just removing fuse 15 gives you German and fuse 11 Italian.

That's almost worth trying out just for the fun of it.

I noted that Rohan's car often claims to be in 'F' when actually it's in 'P'...
Mine does that 80% of the time; it's always a nice surprise to find it in "D".
My left hand matrix has all its pixels and is usually reliable but on a recent long journey with lights and crappy/noisy wipers going it did keep trying to tell me I had a defective rear stop light. Why is that - other than the obvious...

Could be due to a faulty earth on the rear light in question.
I did have this on mine actually, I got out of the car and it was one of the boot lights. I gave it a thump and it popped into life. No problems since!
