Yesterday - whilst the sun was shining, I took off the front wing to access the washer bottle, there was no securing bolt at the front, so the bottle had simply popped off at the filler neck. I removed the air box to create more space and I found surface rust on the inner wing, similar to where CEO has rotten through. I can only assume that the 2 cables that sit underneath the air box and rubbing the paint away and exposing the metal.

Anyway, cleaned the area with a wire brush, treated with Hammerite rust treatment, left to dry and then coated with enamel paint to offer a bit more protection. Fella's, I think you need to check this area on your XM's, I've had 2 go here now, both cars have come from Cumbria/The Lakes.

I think you're right about the cables. Mine had rubbed away the top coat and left the white primer exposed. No rust though which was good. I painted mine too. At least you have caught it in time Ray.

Quick update: K-BAN has been leaking a lot lately, I put it down to the amount of rain we've had over the past few weeks. with the dry sunny weather today I went out to inspect the sunroof and noticed a few places where it had split. Started picking and next thing I had the old seal out. I've never used a seal gun before, but stuck with it and managed to re-seal the outer sunroof. Whether it's water tight or not remains to be seen. Whilst doing this I also managed to snap my aerial(!!) and then my Karcher sprung a leak! So... I'm after a replacement aerial, and I'm saving for a new pressure washer.

Yesterday, I had a few hours spare and with the promise of a dry sunny day I took K-BAN to meet her sister. Whilst there I manged to get both of them up on the ramp and have a good look underneath, both of them are leaking hydraulic fluid from the same area (see pic) and K-BAN has a leaking rear height corrector (I think)

Judging by the photo's, K-BAN has a leaky sunroof wetting the headlining.

I've re-sealed the sunroof but it needs further attention, sometimes the headlining is soaked, other times it's dry, guess it needs a good few days to dry out and trace where it's leaking from.

You need to remove the headlining to see where the water is coming in from, the headlining will be soaked, hence the windows misting when the vent fan has been on.

I currently have the lining out and the car is drying out considerably.

Is there a "how to" guide on removing the headlining?
