Re: CitroJim's ES9 V6 Exclusive
Well, as it's an XM it's all going a bit pear-shaped and I have a few challenges to contend with...
Firstly, you know it has the wrong sized tyres on it...
The exhaust is now blowing at the mid-pipe to transverse box joint. I knew it was weak and now I discover it's weaker than I thought and has been rather bodged with repair paste and not very successfully.
ES9 V6 exhausts are not exactly plentiful. I can't find one at all and would imagine I'll need one making up. Any suggestions?
I can find one for the PRV V6 without any problem and even the 2.5TD but for the ES9 V6, no chance
I discover through sources that it has a Xantia gearbox fitted. These are differently geared to the XM and thus it needs the Xantia ECU too. This is why I can't read it as the S2 Xantia uses different diagnostic protocols. I'm likely to have to fit a 16 pin socket just to read gearbox diagnostics. I also believe the 'box was unlikely to have been fully overhauled before fitting
I now, knowing it's not the right 'box and ECU fitted, hate to think what the fault causing the display to flash is despite the gearbox apparently working OK.
The climate problem has not been resolved by swapping the climate ECU (the part that has the fascia, the buttons and the display on it) so the fault lies somewhere else...
Is there any other ECUs controlling the flap and bower and does anyone have a circuit diagram so I can see how it all hangs together?
I have rather more than I bargained for that needs to be done. It will be... I was hoping by paying fair money I'd not have a massive project on my hands but it seems I have
Ahh well, it's an XM I suppose...

Re: CitroJim's ES9 V6 Exclusive
I would be tempted to get a local powerflow or other exhaust fitter to make one up.

Probably the easiest thing to do Jim. How much is it to do the though I wonder?
Very sorry to hear your new toy is living up to its name sake. Hope someone has some good tips to help you sort out these tedious issues. Just proves with these cars, no matter how careful you are when buying, they still throw their toys around!

Initially quite pricey I guess Russ but at least if it's made in stainless then it's never going to go again..
Tomorrow I shall sit down and start getting some quotes... If you find tomorrow I've taken up drinking you'll know why

Yes, I content myself it's an XM and I bought it with eyes wide open and was aware of most of what is wrong so purchase price was amended accordingly...
It's still an excellent base to make a very fine XM and soon it will be

I needed a link pipe for another car so tried P D Gough and was stunned when he said about £400, so tried Mr Tyre and it was £100.CitroJim wrote:

Sorry to read she's not as good as you hoped for. But since you're a xantia person as well, it might be more bearable!
But if she's driving OK, I would enjoy that more than knowing it's perfect but having no money to drive her, drinking cheap whiskey with water
instead of a nice glass of Highland Park....
