It goes well anyway Will :) I had a lot of fun keeping up with it in the Activa following it to the paintshop this morning.

Not bad considering the 2.5 is a committed veggie too...

that's the thing Jim, above 1800rpm they just lift off and on mine even though the turbo is fine it still whistles a little but shoves very well but I'm just thinking of a gentler stronger boost path from lower revs and to compliment some higher gearing I may be putting in..

She's clearly being very XM-like  I suppose I'm to blame for that. I put one of Russ's Club-XM.co.uk stickers in her windscreen...

Or is it because she has a TCT engine

I take no responsibility for that!!
I had no idea you were getting the roof done Jim, although it clearly needed it. That was some lacquer peel!
Look forward to seeing the results. :D

It really did need it Russ. I first saw the signs on the roof three seasons ago now and watched it getting exponentially worse. The bonnet is just starting so that's being done too..

Oddly, it's only that particular colour (KJA Dantes' Red Rouge D'Enfer) that peels as badly as that. I have seen one Mauritius Blue start to go but nowhere near as bad as Dantes' Red does..

Can't wait until Saturday. I fear it might make the rest of the car look scruffy though...

Nothing a good polish up can't solve I expect. Red paint on cars does seem to suffer. Plain solid red always goes pink if you don't t cut and polish. Must be a pigment in it.

It's a lovely colour though, got many tones to it. I assume it is pearlescent. Mine does a similar thing being pearlescent . Flips from blue to green to grey .

Ooh, shiny new paint :D Im jealous Jim.

As Russ said just polish up the rest of it needs it. You might find though that as its just horizontal panels being done that it will look fine though. They catch the light differently don't they ;)

Id so love to get the xm painted.....maybe one day..i can see me owning that car for a long time to come...i have no intentions of selling it :) :)

Make sure you post up some pictures of it when you get it back :)

Family matters have conspired to keep me away from cars and the forums for a bit as well as Wetherby... No worries, This is the first time in a few days I've been on here and I'm busy catching up again..

Got a bit of spannering done on the XM. More as a break from what is presently going on. One task I steeled myself for was the rear centre hydractive sphere. I was terrified the heat shield bolts into the axle tube would be seized but after much Plus Gas and TLC both came out OK, as did the spare wheel carrier bolt. That was as far as I got before work and family stopped work.. Hopefully it can recommence in the next day or so.

I've done a very quick and bad bodge on the exhaust. I'm still cogitating on what to do as a permanent job...

I also cracked an annoyance. An odd rattle under the car. I found it was the height lever bars (rods) rattling around and banging against their springy retainers. A bit of 'adjustment' has brought blessed silence.

I have the first two weeks off in June and much time will be spent doing much outstanding work on all the cars. Both V6s need new camblets and good services, the Activa needs her fans sorting and a new wheel bearing and the XM needs a new oxygen sensor.

For the next two weekend we're doing some public demonstrations of karate and I've been rather busy training for that. It's going to look good with lots of fighting and tile smashing!

I've not been injured during karate recently but I got well injured yesterday at a birthday party held where we do our karate training; an incident involving a bouncy castle, rowdy play and a toy sword resulted in a big gash on my forehead!

What on earth were you doing? Playing Pirates? or too many back flips on the bouncy castle

Seriously though, hope your injury isn't too nasty.

Happy car tinkering! :D
